CANAM selling type97?

I have read the case, and it was quite apparent that the restricted version being defended could be quickly converted to full auto with minimal effort. Game, set... match. From what CanAm has indicated, though - the non-restricted version is a different design. This case apparently was still before the courts, but I haven't heard anything in a while (and in any event, I'm not in-the-loop).

Being easily convertable to FA is not against Canadian law. Quite a few examples of of semi rifles assembled on FA receivers, as long as they left the factory as semis they're legal.

That of course, was until the RCMP decided to try and apply US type criteria as they have done here.

I will be buying one OUT OF PRINCIPLE when they are available. I was on the original T97 list & still want my gun!!!

Cheers
Jay
P.S. Thank you CanadaAmmo for keeping at this project!

Ditto... I was on the list and expecting delivery before all the douchbagginess happened... I had paid for one rifle... Eventually I put that monies into another Tavor. Now if Canam can bring in the more friendly version then I will buy 3 of them. One for me and one for each of my sons (aged 5 and 2.5). My wife doesn't get one as she likes the FN2K...

Will people who prepaid for the original T97 be given the new redesigned one when it comes out or will that be completely separate?

its funny hw they ban something on how easy it can be mad prohib , but a pin in a mag is supper impossible to remove????? i think the rcmp crime lab just flips a coin or has a 3 sided dice , non restricted, restricted or prohib

Currently, it takes 18+ months to gain FRT approval from the RCMP once a design is submitted and we are probably 6-12 months from getting a prototype, add production time or change time if the design is not accepted and you can do the math.

Years.

Cool, anyone want to buy a picatinny scope rail? I still have about 50 of them sitting in a box at the back of my closet.:D

They did lose. They kept pan handling for the "defense" for a long time after they lost. For some reason that ugly rifle is still listed on their site.

I don't think so but it doesn't matter. The difference between restricted and non was barrel length. The gun was found to be prohibited based on the FACT that it is easily converted to auto. So, it wouldn't matter how long the barrel is.
Have a read of the case. It's floating around on the Internet. Canada ammo's defense was a joke... They might have had a chance if they had spent the cash to get a lawyer.TWK

Our case has not seen a courtroom.

The "lost" case we were raising money for was a reference hearing for a CGN member.

It was sponsored by the NFA; we still raise money for their legal defense fund with T-shirt sales.

Always a good idea to go to the source, not the rumour mill, for info.

No idea when our case will see court. These things take years.

PS We have not asked, nor received, any money for our case.

Either way, new T97 are being developed to meet the minders new rules.

The crap some people post never ceases to amaze me. Did buddy just pull his info out of his a$$?

Somebody owes CanAm an apology but in true fashion I'm sure we'll get old waiting.

Well said!
I still have a deposit on a t97.
I don't care if it takes for ever it's a mater of principle.
Kudos to Canada Ammo!

When they're available, you'll have a guaranteed purchase from me. I wanted one last time and I was very disappointed, although not very surprised, when the RCMP decided to be jerks.

hopefully the new Type 97 will be based on the new Chinese military 95-1 assault rifle -- better looking, performance, and ergonomics.
