Cancelling my tag - BC

I put it on a log and using the tip of my hunting knife cut out the required triangles.

Month, date, region and antlered or antlerless. Skip the antered/antlerless one for black bear.

My buddy and me each got a buck on the the first day of the season this year.

A month later we were visited in camp by conservation officers on a moose hunt and he got a $115 fine for not clipping out the region.

He's a lawyer for goodness sake, he should know about completing paperwork. But, he overlooked it.

And how does one challenge CORE with the mandatory firearms handling bit.
Last I heard the FederalGovernment one didn't count toward that part of the course.
Then again it was 1986 when I did CORE and 1991 when I did PAL(R)...
Curious now....

Firearms handling bit is not required if you have a PAL.

back in the day you could challenge both the written and practical exams, things changed with the new mandatory firearms licensing, still pisses off the archery and flint lock hunters who think they found a loop hole lol
 
As already pointed out, I had a PAL, so the firearms part of the CORE is waived. I also took my CORE over a year ago, back when challenging the PAL was still an option, so you could also challenge the CORE with respect to firearms too. I took my test at Silvercore, who has literally safes full of guns at their office that I could have demonstrated my proficiency with firearms if so required.

and if you run into a CO they check the tag number matches the licence and your good to go.

They're twitchy as #### in BC. The smart money is to cancel the tag before you even start butchering. Make sure he's dead then cancel the tag.

I was in a no motorized vehicle zone one time and a C.O. came up and got excited because he'd had a report of quad hunters in the area.

Well I had arrived on a bicycle, so he was disappointed when he saw it.

So I'm looking over the bank and my bike is leaning on a tree four metres away and he asks for my licence.

I went over to my backpack which was in my carrier on the bike and dug out my wallet.

"You don't have your wallet on you?" he said. "What if you'd seen a deer down the bank right there and shot it? You have to have your tag ready on you at all times so you can cancel the tag immediately."."

Yikes....

I've never see anything like that.

Had a CO stop by to check me out while I was gutting a deer, we chatted while I was gutting it and then I loaded it up on the quad, washed my hands with some snow, and then got out the tags and licences, he confirmed my licence and tag matched and then watched me put the tag on the deer. this was about 4 years ago

last year had a few good chats with the CO, seems to have been 2 cow moose shot in the area which is all on the draw and calf or bull only.

you gotta have that address filled out and it better match your other ID
and you have to completely remove those triangles.
i used to use a knife, till about the 3rd time i cut myself ..... finger cuts are bad when yer about to dress out an animal or still have days left to hunt other game.
it takes nothing to add a small pair of scissors to your field gear and I'd recommend that to any new hunter.
take yer time, check yer phone/watch for correct date. After the kill, especially for a new hunter, the "high" that comes after taking an animal can cause a guy to make silly errors. I've seen long time hunters do it right in front of me.... heck I've been there myself.
so , have a seat, take a breath, slow things down, pull out yer tag and scissors, verify the date and region and cut out those little triangles.

you got it, man! In MB we must cut out the month and day right after the kill and can wait to attach the tag on the animal until we arrive at the transportation vehicle. I got over 300 pairs of scissors available, send me a donation to the local animal shelter and a little postage:)
