i recently ordered a gun and shows canpar as the courier.. is there anyway to have that changed to ups? dont trust canpar

I'm awaiting a CanPar delivery now. ETA was yesterday ( end of day...whatever that meant). The day ended and nothing showed up.
Checked their tracking and ended up with an empty page. Repeated multiple times and nothing. Emailed and nothing.
Not impressed right now!

Had the same results with Canpar this week and the reason it was not delivered despite a guarantee of delivery's till 8:00 p.m. to residences was the dispatch called the truck back at 6:00 p.m. because they were too busy to fulfill all orders etc.. :(

Yeah its tough on them...the courier drivers are coming in much later than normal and their trucks jammed full. They have been hiring and increasing route sizes all week. Also most of the major couriers have eliminated their on time guarantee due to the severely increased volume.

Just spoke with a CanPar rep. Exactly what they said. They don't deliver on Saturdays either. You would think they would jump on the Can Post strike and increase their delivery volume, at least for the time being. I'm sure some of their couriers would appreciate the OT.

I agree, if the couriers step it up right now and prove they can handle the volume and shine doing it then maybe people won't go back to Canada Post when the strike/lock out is done. Great service and going the extra mile now would mean a lot more business in the long run. Can't see it happening but would be cool.

Going through the same. Had a scope sent from Vancouver Monday morning and still not here. Having a go with them on the phone, if I wanted pony express service I would have paid pony express rate. If they are going to take on extra work because of the postal strike and they cannot provide the same service as before their rates should reflect the poorer service. Phone or email them and tell them you are not happy and will be using a different Courier next time.

My packaged from UPS is already 5 days late and it's crazy.

I don't think Canada post is going away folks. $20 to ship with CP or $45+ with UPS/Canpar/Fedex makes my choice easy when shipping items.

Canpar has no idea or at least the driver that comes to my house about firearms law

The courier has dropped rifles and ammunition in my garage without me present just the sign slip. Also when present never asked for my PAL. Does the courier have to do this or only the initial shipper?

That's for us peasants who ships <100 items/year. CP is the only sane option for us, but for larger volumes CanPar and UPS are not much more expensive than CP. Amazon.ca ships almost half their stuff through UPS,half through CP.

CP's market share in packages was more than 50% in canada, and now with the strike talks, it has evaporated to almost nothing, only what's coming from oversea. Everyone remembers 2011 when everything stayed in warehouses for days/weeks, and nobody wants to play in that show anymore. So all the courriers are swamped, it's not just CanPar. Switching courrier probably won't help, at least for now.

The private courriers can't increase volume that much that fast. You can't hire people and buy new trucks within a week's notice. Patience grasshopper, patience. It'll get there eventually. Just make sure you don't order food or perishable stuff.

Only the initial shipper needs to ask for PAL. Most firearms sellers automatically request signatures though. If you signed the slip, then it means you accept all responsibilities, and it's the same as signing when the package is delivered, so you're actually the one on the hook if anything bad happens. Driver doesn't even need to know about firearms laws. Actually, he shouldn't even know there's a firearm in that box.

For powder, primers and munitions though it's slightly different. It should be handled as a hazardous substance level 1, but they never bother. It's ironic given that only UPS and CanPar accept hazardous materials, but then they don't bother following regulations that come with the handling of those materials.

Cut them some slack. How can anyone just double their capacity in a weeks notice because of a pending strike. it's not like they're not doing their best. A package a day or two late is pretty darn good considering. What a bunch of whiners.

If you read the disclaimer on Canpar`s site ,it pretty much says due to CP ,there are no guarantees on deliveries ,as to heavy volumes.

Pretty much makes sense to me.

Can Par is a terrible service and nothing to do with their delays due to volume. I always have to go through all sorts of hurdles to actually get my packages from them. At least UPS has several local depots to pick up from.

Parcel from Alberta Monday last week right on time via CanPar. Have had two case lot ammo shipments so far this year and both were on time.
The driver was not looking forward to the mandatory overtime as he was worried that the company might cancel his booked holidays.
Do not know about the rest of you but I have no interest in overtime during the summer and always book two weeks vacation.
Would be pissed if my company canceled all vacations with little notice.

Stop being prissy, and put your size 6?'s in their shoes
