canpro .308 147 grain

Oh nice, I got an unopened box of 500 of them...

Did anyone try sorting them using a bullet comparator or something to get better grouping?

Has anyone tried loading 30-06 with Campro .308 147 grain bullets ..
I use IMR 3031 .. 43 to 47 grains .. got ####ty results 3 to 5 inch groups

I shot the same powder loads with a 150 grain Hornady bulk bullet and got 1 inch groups
I shot these right after campro 's

any ideas

thanks

Gerry

I found they shoot a little better at lower velocity in 30-06. Starting loads in 4895 and 4064 shot better than hotter loads. Was no great accuracy at any level. They are good, low cost plinkers for milsurp shooters.

comparator shows the manufacturing variations. grouping them would mean adjusting the jump when seating, not worth the time to compensate for inconsistent production.

For some reason, I find them to be just a touch undersized, to the point neck tension won't reliably hold them in place.
Ended up needing a lee undersize 30 cal mandrel for my neck size die to increase tension.

Out of my 30-06 hunting rifle (50gr IMR4320 3.3" COAL), I get ~1.5MOA so no complaints here.

Ive emailed Campro ..they suggest 2.280 coal and then try only 40 grains of 3031...won't know till next week
because of the rain ..

Haha, wish I'd found this thread before ordering 1000 of the .223 55grn FMJBT, if they shoot terribly then I guess I'll go with the Hornady next time around.

Horses for courses; ball type projectiles(regardless of caliber or manufacturer) will never measure up to the accuracy of an equivalent match projectile. Your campro 55gr ball projectile will likely shoot about the same as the hornady equivalent.

so far the Hornady .308 at 150 grain out groups the Campro .308 147gr

I'm only punching paper .. with the Hornady bulk bullets I have cloverleaf them a time or two ..
mostly I group around an inch to 2 inch at the 100
I'm no sniper by any means .. I just enjoy shooting , reloading and BS'ing with others at the range

the Campro so far 3 to 5 inch groups

a bad day at the range is still better than a great day at work

I loaded some 147gr campro rounds last year but my to-go powder is IMR 4350 but in 308 rather than 30.06.

For guys who just want plinking rounds for the range from a semi like an M14 or M305 ( or other 30 cal.) they are no worse than bulk or surplus loads from china or elsewhere.
