cant decide on cartridge

Don't get all caught up in cartridge selection. Modern medium capacity cartridges between 6.5 and .30 caliber all fall pretty much within the same performance envelope, when they're loaded with similar bullets. Concentrate more on finding a rifle you like, and use the cartridge it comes chambered for.

The 30-06 loaded with 180 grain Partitions will take anything from mice to moose. No worries about changing trajectories from using different specialized loads for specific critters.

With that said I agree with Boomer any medium-bore cartridge with a good bullet will do the same thing.

You may not like any of the suggested cals but simpler to just buy something used and try it out. You can likely sell it for what you paid. I have bought and sold a bunch of different cals and have sold them for one reason or the other but what have you got to lose? Buy something strange-you may come to love it. Pretty much any of the 30cals will take game so go play. I currently own a
223. 308, 30-06, 35Rem, 45/70 and several 22s plus a nice 12ga pump. A lot of this is interchangeable under the right circumstances. I dont need all these and may change my mind but for right now I am loading for them and loving it. Sometimes the hunting choice is "eenie meenie minie moe". We only really rent them anyways... :)

Why not consider the 35 Whelen. You can load plinking rounds using light 38/357 bullets or go hot and get 375 H&H performance with heavier bullets that will take anything in North American with authority. I am using this "poor mans magnum" and getting fantastic results.
