Cap N Ball revolver sound off!

I just got an...

Uberti 1851 Navy Colt .36 caliber. I guess you'd call it a pocket pistol, because the barrel is 5 1/2 inches long. I haven't shot it yet, but I plan to remedy that situation as soon as I can.

A new addition

circa 1853

This Colt '51 Navy was put back into shooting condition using Pietta parts, (hammer, hand, bolt, trigger, and nipples)they fit with minimal adjustment. I'm on the lookout for original parts, but for now,I'll use it as is.KD
P.S. I have repaired the original hammer, and found a period wedge. It now uses original parts, everything but the main spring, and nipples

Awesome Navy, Dixda. I've always wanted to pick up an "ok" condition original Navy (ie, affordable).

As for me, I'm currently trying to decide between a Uberti Walker and a 2nd model Dragoon to add to my cap & ball armory.

Black Powder Revolvers

I have about 12 or 14 black powder revolvers. I have never shot any of these and I have had them for the past 6 or 7 years.
Uberti
1860
1861 With Shoulder Stock
Walker
Remington
Remington Model 1858 Target Revolving Carbine
Flint 58 cal Army presentation In The box

CVA 1861
Ruger Old Army (I need a screw for the Ruger Grips, does anyone out there have one)?

Colt 1860 Army-Fluted Cylinder

Two Italian flint pistols

I am shure I forgot one ot Two.
I have another new shoulder stock but I was told there were three Colts that took stocks.
I have a cylinder, Barrel (with lever assembly), and grip section for a CVA Walker. Check out my thread.

Hey dixda,

Great '51 Navy, however, I'm curious about the status. Did you get it verified as an antique firearm?

Also, if the Navy was found in the woods, is there a possibility that its not an original, but simply an old replica from the fifty's? I've heard of people finding rusted old guns thinking they were antiques, and then finding later on they were actually just beat up old replicas.

Finally, I'm assuming it is an origninal '51 Navy, do you shoot it? and if so did you get checked by a gunsmith for safety?

Randy77,
This revolver has the factory stamped serial number 32### on almost every part (the grip has it in pencil or ink in the backstap groove),which dates it's manufacture at 1853.
It was put back into shooting condition by a competent gunsmith using Pietta parts bought from Marstar http://www.marstar.ca/gf-pietta/images/PT-AC070-450px.jpg
Surprizingly, the new stainless nipple threads matched the originals, and after much cleaning of the cylinder threads, screwed right in. Unfortunately, the Pietta hammer is shorter at the sight V-notch than the original, so a proper sight picture is out of the question. But it shoots well enough for now. I am looking for original parts, though.(hammer, trigger)
I have shot it using light loads(18gr FFF)
I'll get it verified and keep the paperwork with it.KD

Where is a good place to buy C&B revolvers new? Looking for Remington 1858 style.

Marstar for Pietta, Shooter's Choice for Uberti stuff. Pietta's cheaper, Uberti is finished slightly better. FWIW, I shoot Pietta.

I hope you find what you're after.KD

2 Ueberti 1851 navy's.
one is great the way it was,
the other had to have spring in loading arm retaining beaf'd
up, too week, and flopped down when fireing pistol.
That one also, I had to carefully peen niples to make the caps stay on snugly.
I had to file end frame down slightly to make cylinder gap smaller.
Made a primer seater from 3/16 dowl, with .223 empty case on handle end.
Fitted an empty .223 case onto flask niple and cut it's length till it dropped my shooting charge.
Had to also, stake front wedge site to stop it from falling off when shooting.
I think that this pistol was made on a Friday afternoon,
and was assembled without any fitting being done, and when they returned to work Monday morning it was forgotten about, and was sent off to the shipping dept.

[/IMG]leadslinger,i have the same problem with caps not staying in place while shooting,[1851 sherriff by the way] when you say you peened them ,did you use something like a centre punch to slightly expand end of nipple?or am i misreading you?

Before you peen anything, try another brand and size of caps such as Remington No.10's. Failing that, try some new nipples like the Treso ones.
