On the older machines I used to removed the seat and build a shallow box with hinged top. Then mount the seat to the top. A simple lock device for easy access. Was able to carry a gun, spare ammo, knife and other small items. It kept the snow out and everything out of harms way.
This lifted the seat up a some, but being long legged made it more comfortable for riding (for me). Not sure how it would work for some folks that are vertically challenged.
