roadblock.. No worries, hopefully I will run into you at the range to help unload some of your cache!!

:50cal:

I've got me fealers out for the next 'Big One'

Looking at whats available for .223... even down south the cost concious .223 is drying up. UMC and AE is nowhere to be found.
Marstar just sold out and Wolverine still has the AE in stock (for now).

AE averages in about $320-350USD per 1000...that $393.70 wolverine wants looks pretty good.................we all know when it is gone the next truckloads will be up 10%+

Was there today (Bass Pro)... They had 20 Boxes out in the cabinet, but no 'bricks' in the back. Spoke with the Manager; They received 400 Bricks last Wednesday and are ALL SOLD OUT !! :runaway:

The Manager was shocked to hear that such a large amount of ammo was moved through the place, in such a short time......

On the flip side; he said this is a "Regularly stocked Item and should be replenished shortly"......

I don't know why he was 'shocked', the same thing happens everytime BassPro gets any .223 UMC in stock.

I finally gave up after calling them every week for two months this past summer and getting the same "...should be getting more shortly..." response, only to call them the week that they finally did get a big shipment in to be told that they sold it all - all - to a couple of 'Ammo-Pigs' (my expression, not their's) within a day - a day. It sounds as though close to the same thing happened this time around.

 Pi**ed me off (...and no, they won't take your name for ammunition and set it aside/call you when it comes in).

I ended up locating and tapping into a couple of 'off the beaten track' sources that did have it in stock and purchased several cases from them.

Bass Pro are over priced on everything, Their customer service sucks, their employees are miserable but their ammo is cheap!

Last summer, when 5.79 a pack was too expensive at Bass Pro. La Baron was selling it for 5.20 a pack. (for .223)

NOW.. La Baron is charing 7.20$ a box or something like that, but yet BASS Pro's price remained the same, 5.79. (for .223)

First come first serve....buying 10 - 15 or even 20 CASES at a time should be no surprise. They are getting more business now that prices everywhere else is HOVERING above the 400$/1000rds after TAX and shipping.
Meanwhile bass pro is still only charging 330$/1000 tax in.

Well.... ummm. I did by 20 cases @ Bass Pro... do I feel bad?? hmmm. No.
Sux if you were the next guy..... But we all have had a turn at being the next guy................

If you want to drop over a $1000 like this on ammo 'just because you can' (and post a trophy pic for good measure), fill your boots ...I'm sure that BassPro was happy to get your business.

The point I was making is that for every person who engages in this kind of hoard-buying, there's dozens of their fellow shooters who won't be able to get their hands on even a few boxes (let alone cases) of the same ammo because of it.

do you want to be one of the people who shoots their ar or other .223 for the next year, or one of those who dont. its not about 'just because you can' its because i dont want my guns collecting dust. and its because i dont want to spend 50 cents a round. *shrug* i dont feel bad either. i've been the next guy too.

I hear you....Nice to have to wait until payday and go back to find them out of stock by then! Last time that happened with reasonably priced .45 I found a press on here and started loading my own. I'm just waiting on some dies to start with the .223....

Maybe not the solution for you for any number of reasons, but I've found it to be the only way to deal with ammo prices/availablity. The bonus is you can collect the 'horders' brass and let them subsidize your shooting.:D Always makes my day to see the guy in the next lane pull out a brick or two now.....That just means free brass for me. Allows me to shoot twice as much for the same amount of money and some of my time. Its not as fun as shooting but is pretty cool in its own right as a hobby too.

It all depends on how much you shoot.......If you only shoot a couple of boxes a month then pay the premium and don't worry about it.... BUT ....if you are like me and shoot 10 to 20 thousand rnds. per year then buy all you can at the best price you can find . Why should I worry about your lack of foresight in not stocking up when you can. For me its not "hoard-buying" It's keeping an ample supply on hand to keep my habit fed:D

I think hoarding is a strong word.. you can go to the range on a sat. afternoon and cook off 1000+ rounds easy. Buying a large quantity just saves someone multiple trips to the store. :)
