Saw a you tube video in which the guy that invented the expensive Primal Rights priming tool was expounding on the benefits using rice as a medium in the tumbler. Cleaned the filthy walnut shells out of my Frankford machine and dumped in the only rice i have in the kitchen, Minute rice. Added 40 223 cases and fired it up for 4 hours. EVERY case was packed with frickken rice, spent 30 minutes with a dental pick digging it out.:( :(:( Turns out Minute rice is long grain rice and he said to use medium grain rice. It may not pack in to larger necked cases i will have to try some Swede cases or 260 Rem. I will only put 10 cases next time.;) Perhaps i will look for some different rice next time i go shopping, also it's a good thing i'm semi retired and have lots of time after my nap to screw around with new things in the reloading room. Oh ya the Minute rice did a nice job polishing.

My advise do not use rice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It just doesn't work well. Go with lizard litter walnut shell and that is all. Don't get the stuff with all those additives.

Been using walnut shells for some time, dirty stuff. Oh yes i have used bounce dryer sheets, didn't see any improvement. I'm also repurposing an old brake lathe in building a wet tumbler. I have a lot of time on my hands when the weather is cold hence i play around with things. Enjoy things a bit, the end may be closer than you think. ;)

Maybe some people use really dirty walnut shells over and over. I have zero problems with the dry tumble with walnut and polish. It’s super easy.

Basmati rice works for me. I added my old media (corn) and some jewelers rouge for polish. Most cases are super clean. Odd one needs a shake.
