Cast Bullet ####

Great pics! I can't believe that some of you are using Lee molds and actually end up with bullets! (sarcasm off) :p

I love casting bullets. I use Lee molds exclusively. Pistol bullets don't usually get resized. They are lubed with Lee liquid alox, tumbled in an ice cream tub and laid out on wax paper to dry. I don't use too much.

Rifle bullets get a dose of the blue stuff in the grooves (I forget the name of the lube) and then usually a tumble of Lee liquid alox. I put the blue stuff on with my fingers. Pretty high tech, I know, but I have been able to struggle along for years doing that. If I was loading for the Chinese Army, I might mechanize.

I used to cast on the front deck of my old cabin at the lake. The chicks would come along and wonder what I was doing. I would explain in great detail and talk verrryyyy ssssllloooowwwww.

just sized up 100 Lee C358-158 SWC bullets for 38 and 357mag both using w231 or accurate no2, i forgot i cast these up.

unfortunately i don't have the proper top punch for them so it reshaped the tips a bit, but the last 50 i tried shot amazing!

My cast boolits for my 45-70. Rcbs 405 gr gaschecked mould with red magnum lube (thanks dragon lube) these boolits weigh in at 420ish gr on average using almost pure wheel weights. Shoot nice and tight out of my gg gbl. And penetrate through aprox 19" of birch tree. :)

nice, what powder(s) do you use?

I prefer imr 4198 in it. I am shooting at max charge. My manual calls for 40.5 max and so that's what I been loading it up to.(I bought the gun for the recoil) I like it kicks good and great accuracy. I also have been using 13 gr of trail boss. For light poppers. :) I also have a 330 gr hollowpoint rcbs mould on the way. I'll post pics once it arrives and first batch of boolits are made.

if i had the $1200 i would have bought a BFR revolver in 45-70 and see how it compares to my 500, looked like lots of fun either way!

Yeah the bfr is a nice looking gun. I was thinking the same thing if I could come up with the cash it sure would be nice to try out. But I started an 300 AAC blackout build instead and also looking into a 416 Rigby or 470 NE. I got my hunting rifles, a few long range , so now I need some big bores. :)

Hot out of the mould. Well kinda. :) 20 gauge sabot slugs from my Lyman mould I got my little brother for Christmas. They look good now to load them up and test them
Out.

If your tumble lubing and want a cleaner look and less mess in your seating die try this......

45% liquid alox 45% floor paste wax and 10% mineral spirits

If you don't have paste wax or mineral spirits, heating the bullets up with a hairdryer for a minute before tumble lubing makes the alox "flow" better and gives more even coverage.

Tried to find paste floor wax in 2 different places locally but couldn't so I tried some NuFinish liquid car wax
using a plastic teaspoon. A 1-1-1 mix was way too runny so I added one more tsp each of Alox and NuFinish
and things are looking alot better than originally. I can always add more Alox and car wax to this small test batch
but the one bullet I tumbled looks way less blotchy than pure Alox, is nicely tacky without being over the top,
and the mix washes off your hands with regular soap and water. Try that with pure Alox!
Wearing disposable gloves was a pain for me and that Alox smell would be on my hands for hours- grrrrrr.

Thanks yodave for helping me find a tumble lube solution to messy pure Alox.

ok, I'll show some of mine.
im not much of a photographer, i was loading these tonight so i thought ill take a picture.
first one is 45-70 with 430 grain gas check hollow point. never heard a complaint from the deer and bear with these bullets, usually just a bang flop.

Very nice phishroy. What mould is that 430 gr hp??? I am using the 405 gr rcbs and love em. The red dragon works very nice with them. No leading at all and great accuracy. By the way I'll be putting in another order this week for more gaschecks and lube. Keep up the great work man.

Made these yesterday. 45-70 405 gr. NOE mold.

Good bullets but a pia to make. Those straight cut lube grooves make the bullets prone to stick in the mold and need some banging to get them to release.

Use Lyman super moly spray lube as a mold release agent,=No more beating and smashing your molds to get the bullets out.

it is an NOE mold, it is one of their RG molds. solids are around 460 grains and the hollow points are around 430 grain cast from soft lead.
link to the bullet design here.

How about some 224 cast bullet ####.
Old Timer Lou

just because you requested.
these little ones haven't been introduced to the lube sizer yet.
they are around 71to 72 grain when cast as sold and i have tinkered around with the hollow point pin depth so they are 68 grain HP after they are lubesized and gas checked.
this bullet is one of my most accurate little pill that i have in 224.

this is at 100 yards, the red dot is just a point of aim.

velocity for this load is around 2450fps, still working on the load development, results can be improved for this little pill.
