Cast Bullet ####

2236 fps with a plain base boolit and good accuracy is very impressive.

Beat me to it....I was just thinking the same thing

Certainly no more than I was. The cases in the first picture were perfectly formed to 9.3X62 with the first firing, so the pressures are substantial.

The Cream of Wheat obviously is protecting the bullet, as well as scouring the bore clean. You can see in the two pictures of the recovered bullet that the base remains near perfect.

Wonder how those would work in my Mosin with 311 bore. Looking for some light weight plinking and small game loads. Is .003" over bore pushing it?

Cool Spawn. I do have the 312 sizer but also have an M44 which slugged out to 312. It's a sweet old carbine which seems to work great with the light load cast I've been feeding it lately. Just looking to conserve lead by casting lighter projectiles that will get the job done. Have even been looking at the ultra light weight round balls.

Lutnit what size bore are you shooting these through? Do you size them down?

Actually, two to three thousandths larger than the bore is perfect for cast bullet shooting. Bore size is when you start getting leading, and undersize is almost a guarantee you will have buckets of problems shooting cast.

I don't size them down. I normally shoot .311" cast through my .308" rifles anyway and have never had anything happen (leading, pressure, etc.). So shooting .314" through a .311" is just fine.

I've actually never slugged my Mosin. I tried .311" cast rifle bullets in it before doing anything else and they shot like a dream. I've also shot jacketed .308 bullets through it and had no noticeable accuracy reduction. When I moved up to .314" rifle bullets the accuracy went wonky but the .314" pistol bullets are no problem. There are occasionally some feeding issues due to the bullet being so short but nothing a nudge from my finger can't fix.

One of my .303B's slugs .315" and they still shoots these fine at pistol velocities (700-1100fps). My P14 is .311" if memory serves and can shoot .308 jacketed bullets like my Mosin. It likewise doesn't have any issues with .314" pistol bullets at pistol velocities.

Good looking bullets Huntsman.

Gonna order up one of those 314 molds when I place my next order for reloading supplies. Probably be a Spring order since I've already a couple molds on the way plus a bunch of other goodies. So more cast pics to come in the next couple weeks ;)
