Got the new mould in today and decided to cast some up .308" 205 gr spire point. Turned out great and weighed 10 and they weighed between 203.1-203.5 before gas check and lube. Got them next to 180 gr ttsx and 208 gr amax.

And here they are next to a 165 gr ballistic silver tip on left and a 155 smk on the right.

230gn, 308 for 300blackout.

Lube for stright cast was alox (.311)
Powder coat for black bullet (tumble method, after coating its .314)

The finish tured out ok but i ruined the batch because i used foil, next time i will try parchment paper.

I'd just throw it in the old casting and start again.

Curious as to why those jacketed bullets have lube grooves? Possibly for use in low velocity loads?

I believe the grooves on mono-metal bullet shanks are there to reduce peak chamber pressure as the bullet engraves into the rifling.
Gives the harder metal a place to displace to.

Parchment paper works great for baking powder coat.

Yes the grooves in the Barnes are to help reduce pressures as they are all copper no lead.

Those are copper solids. Thats where the bullet crushes in the rifling to impart the spin.

Thanks. I got some loaded up. Just waiting till the weekend for range testing. I am hoping for great results. These look very promising. Just gonna do 100 yard testing this weekend then plan on going out to about 300 maybe the following week.

Also shot 15 rounds today and all worked out fine

found some tula ammo in 9mm and 45acp and was pleasantly surprised it was boxer primed (9mm was berdan) so for giggles i loaded up some with 200gr RNFP (lee mold 452-200-RF)

I think I just turned color blind.....

How did they compare to your regular lubed bullets? I've been enamel coating some of my bullets and will be comparing them with my standard alox tumble lubed bullets. Also performed the hammer test and found the enamel coating to be very durable with no cracking.

Jongun,

Less smoke than a regular lubed bullet and less fouling but i am changing the powder used. I should have done a bit more reading on this type of powder but its not the safest it seems.

This powder is tgic based, i am going to try and find some non-tgic before doing any more.
