Cast bullets in sabots

Hi,

Call me old fashioned, but I'm a firm believer in a big chunk of pure lead to slow a critter down. I was thinking of using cast .45 bullets in sabots in a couple of my .50 in-lines. Given that I already have the mould (yes - mould - I AM CANADIAN) for 450 gr. hollow points for my 45-70, I wondered how they would do. Has anyone out there tried this? Any critters to testify as to whether it slows them down quick?

I have tryed some hard cast .452 pistol bullets in my TC triumph .I had no luck getting them to shoot with any accuracy.these were 230 gr and 250 gr using a mpm sabot.best groups were with a light charge of 777 fffg (55gr) at about 2.5".a hunting weight charge really opened up the groups.

Prolly wouldn't work the best as you would have to size cast bullet down to .452" to fit most sabots. A better idea would be either a mold for .452" pistol bullets or use a full size slug like the lyman Plains bullet at .500" or some such, Lyman sells that mold as a single cavity only but it is a good mold, I've made/sold many thousands of that bullet cast from pure lead. .452" pistol bullets can be used in a sabot "as cast"...Ben

I've had success with cast bullets in sabots. here is a pic of a spitzer bullet that I cast from a mould that I made, it produces a .453 dia.300 gr. spitzer with a slight boat tail base for easier loading. Worked satisfactory when I kept my speeds under 2200 fps. in my savage smokeless.
