I though I’d post a few pics of this beast. Left hand sheath as well. Given to me by a friend from his late father in-laws collection, this knife is quite interesting. His father in law joined up at 18 years of age with the Canadian Forces. He was in the war effort for five years. Somewhere in Sicily, he acquired this knife in trade with a USGI. He ended up being a motorcycle dispatcher. He was wounded multiple times but continued on til the end of the War. He passed away at 99 years old. Made by a smallish company for the war effort and retail. It’s similar to the US fighting knife MK2 style known as the Kabar. Very heavy and thick.

The 225Q is a very nice field knife. I have a 225Q that one of my uncles carried across Europe back in the day. It also has a left handed sheath. I think most did.

No I didn’t tighten it. After I found out about the history behind this knife, I figured it’s more a piece of the past and have left it alone. Yes on the sheath as being mostly left handed, from what I’ve read. One theory regarding the sheaths design was that it was to be used by right hand shooters, which I can’t really figure out. Another is the Q part of the knife model name refers to Quarter Master in as much as it was ordered by one. Also the idea that the pommel was designed as a hammer and the blade as a crowbar (which I don’t think is true). It’s heavier than the kabar by 3 oz. and is more like a camp knife which probably performed very well. This piece is why I love the whole milsurp hobby. It gets me interested in finding out more information about what I’m holding in my hand!!
Cheers
