At the range last week, a fellow shooter made the comment that CCI stingers had a slightly longer case than 'target' .22lr, and thus the bullet might not seat quite right in target chambers (eg in the Pardini a friend was using)

Any comments?

This also made me wonder about CCI Blazers. I finally found some, at a Canadian Tire near our cottage- have yet to locate them in the GTA- but hesitated just in case there was a potential issue here too.

Oh, the Blazers were $29.99 for a 525 bulk pack.

If you have a match-cut target chamber, you're wasting it using bulk-pack junk. Go get some Aquila or Eley match loads if you're picky enough to have a match-grade .22LR. :)

With that said, I can't comment on the CCI case length since I've never checked it.

Stingers, yellow jackets, and any other Hyper velocity ammo will have a longer case, and a oddly shaped bullet. so no those may not fit right in some tighter chambers, and may not work in all mag or tube fed firearms.

the high velocity ones should work just fine, and they are a standard length case.

The answers help- thanks!

I'm shooting a vintage Browning Challenger, which thankfully doesn't seem to have expensive tastes! Still, want to use something a bit better that Winchester Wildcat...but it doesn't have to be match quality (priced) ammo.

If you want the same speed and bullet weight Use CCI Quick Shok's Part#0064

Not quite as long as a stinger, and the bullet is slightly different, but if you need the velocity...

Wonder what the guys at the silhouette range would think of these?:ban:

2 of my local shops sell Blazer for $23 a box of 525.
If I buy 10 at a time they give me a better price.

Did some ammo tests with the kids and there 10/22s.
One likes Winchester 333 best
One likes Winchester super X best
One likes Blazer best

Blazer was second place for the first two guns.
So at $23 a box Blazer it is.

American Eagle was the worst in all our guns. Including my CZ452 but they
shoot the best out of our Ruger Mark II. Go figure.

I use the CCI Velociters, which are a hyper velocity round, and they have a regular sized case. The CCI Stingers have a longer case.

In fact, only the CCI Stinger has the longer case. These work fine in ordinary 22 rimfires, but will often not chamber in a 22 rimfire with a match chamber. [I have several such 22's] And, as DocM said, if you have a match chamber, don't waste your time with sub standard ammo. That said, I have found CCI Blazer to be great practice ammo in ordinary rimfires. I shot some Win 333 ammo the other day, and was pleasantly surprised at it's performance at 50 meters [the groups averaged around .4"] Regards, Eagleye.

Cci stingers have a 32 grain hollow point 22LONG bullet seated in a case that is slightly longer(aprox.1/8")than standard 22LONG RIFLE cases so as to achieve the same over all cartridge length from the smaller 22 Long bullet. This means more powder less weight (and driving band width) so more velocity but less stability/accuracy. Also this case may get caught in the tight tolerances of a match chamber (like poor headspacing in a bottleneck case)
A Rem 22lr yellow jacket has a standard length 22LR case with a hotter burning powder and lightened 34? Grain THP bullet for moderately higher velocity but not as high as the stinger. The crayon tip shape of the conical truncated hollow point bullet on the yellow jacket do make clip feeding more problematic especially on semi autos where the rim of th truncated point gets caught or peeled off by the edge of the chambers breach. A bullet with a gauge out of it doesn't fly straight neither does a dented or bent one, wich is all too easily done by the rapid action of a semi!(Even my Rem597 hates Rem yellowjackets, it doesn't mind stingers though)
In summery a HYPER VELOCITY round is ok to plink or pest control with.(They will effectively remove ground hogs, raccoons and the like!)
From a bolt, pump, lever or single shot rifle where the action is locked into battery so as to utilize all the powder and the round can either be placed into the chamber directly or the action worked in such a manner as to not disrupt any of the bullet on the more delicate THP bullets.
Note that some semi autos have been damaged by HYPER VELOCITY ammo. The action is blown back with such force that damage can and does occur.(I have personally seen an older High Standard handgun come apart!) While I have fired my Rem597 with this type of ammo It is a new gun with a strong action and utilizes a rubber bolt stop not found on all other actions, nor does it possess a tight match chamber. It will munch, bend, gauge or otherwise wreck truncated ammo however.
