Century Arms Montreal?

I'm afraid I have to agree with Sunray, I've had a P14 Centurion in 300 Win Mag which came originaly with a .303 cal barrel when it was a Enfield P14, when I found the accuracy to be poor with factory ammo, I slugged the barrel it miked out to .312 thous of an ins. instead of .308, kind of sloppy if you ask me.

Hmmm...Last time I checked the .303 British is supposed to be between .311, and is still serviceable all the way up to .313. Hornadys 150 to 180 grain bullets in .312 might have fixed this.

But so does the conversion to 300Win Mag. :D

Calum: Here is the page with the Swedish Mausers. By 1985 people had started to figure out they were good rifles, the price doubled from the first of the '80s imports.
Check out the six pack of M91s

I did a fair bit of business with CI and I got a nice deal on an M-38 Mauser and my FN-FAL (L1A1). I still have the FN. Both shot very well. I also bought several of their bayonets which, as I recall, were in excellent shape and very well priced.

My only regret was buying a cheapo Ruby revolver for $75.00 which was advertised in .38 Spl. but when I got it, it was in .38 Long. They had shut their doors by the time I noticed this as back then any restricted firearms spent several weeks at the local police lockup while Ottawa did the paperwork. The Ruby is in pieces in a baggie in my locker. It became prohibited shortly after I had purchased it so I'll always have a prohib lying around.

I bought a rifle from a fellow a few months ago, and he used the current Montreal store front of Century for the verification. I asked the guy what business he was in, and he said mostly police and institutions.

There was a time in Quebec when guns weren't bad, but criminals were. The FLQ started to change those attitudes. Heck for a while as a 14 or 15-yr old I had my own FN C1 through the rifle association! Then it was the stopwatch bank robbers with sawn off M1 and M2 carbines. The Brinks armoured truck robbery with the belt fed .50cal. The Polytechnic shootings and The Oka crisis with Mohawk Warriors carrying Czech rifles (from Century) and rumours of Barrett Fifty's, were the end of the freewheeling gun owning days.

Wasn't that gun found to be a dewat? Hard to imagine how any of the current gun laws do anything to prevent that from happening again. For that matter, all the "bad" examples you have given were the work of criminals, who already were breaking the laws, so more laws weren't likely to change their ways. I could be wrong about the Mohawk warriors mind you....I don't think any of them were ever successfully charged for anything.

If I recall correctly, the M2 used in the Brinks robbery was not a dewat but was missing some parts rendering it non functional. Mohawk did have a M82 seized in a CF raid during Oka. It apparently came from the US side.

I still kick myself in the a%s for not have buy a .25 or.32 from them before 1995.
So, now, I don't have 12.6:mad:

So, a FN or AK too to have 12.5

Damm me!

Three of us went together and had a dealership licence back when CAI was in business. We ordered lots of good stuff from them, Districorp, and others. Some of the rifles were really nice. We would pick the nicest for our own collections an sell the rest at cost to help out budding collectors and shooters. I wish I would have mortgaged my a$$ to buy more in those days. I bought a lot of stuff from Alan Lever too. He was a real gentleman to deal with. kjohn

I feel your pain.
A shooting buddy of mine offered me his converted auto HK G3 (as I recall, but it may have been a different HK model) back in lat '92 because when the new Kim Kampell laws were coming in, he didn't want to keep those types of firearms. The offer was at an attractive price... but then I thought "what do I need a C/A for? I already have plenty of semi firearms. I don't NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED a C/A".
And of course, what does NEED have to do with our hobby/sport.
I could have been grandfathered and buy ANY C/A that I want, if I would have JUST bought that rifle from him.
Hindsite is 20/20 but I'm still annoyed with myself for not buying that rifle just to get into that class.

Man I'd love to have a FAL. I remember seeing one on an Army recruiters wall at a Canadian Military building...I couldn't take my eyes off it.

I always seem to be late for the party...sigh. :(

I knew this was going to be an interesting topic. :D

the century arms building was in st.laurent,a suburb of montreal,on henri bourassa street.nearby was (and probably still is) districorp and also near there was another store which is now closed.back in the "good'ol days" mtl. was "the" place for toys.there was a place on st.denis street that would have made u cr**m yourself.this guy had EVERYTHING and i do mean EVERYTHING.SIGH...how i long for a wayback machine...

..at least the Indian FAL's were cheaper. Hey! I paid less than that for a new SKS 3 years ago! The authentic (used) SKS is actually cheaper than the Norinco copy.
