Century Arms Montreal?

I remember getting the new catalogue mailed to me and drooling over the cheap handguns. Lots of good kit and accessories in there too. I bought a unissued M14 fiberglass stock for $35, some bayonets and some cheap ammo. Good deal, but ammo took almost six months to get to me (they had to wait for a new shipment).

Myself and a friend decided to put an order together and ordered up some of those pistols and ammo at bargain prices.

We got a letter back saying that they were out of stock on those items (everything on our order) and gave us a credit note.

We think that alot of the bargain stuff advertised in the catalogue was never actualy in stock, it was just a ploy to hook people and get them to place and order, chances being that some of the order could be filled.

Then a couple of weeks later, the company closed its doors, phone no longer in service, no response to our letters, a great dissapointment. We learnt a lesson, if it sounds too good to be true......it probably is.

Left us a few hundred bucks out of pocket and a bad taste in our mouths. So ya, I remember Century Arms.

Get the M95, ammo was only 25 cents a round, and it was all pretty much Wollersdorf stuff for the longest time. Then they started bringing in the Bulgarian stuff. At the time (IIRC) Hansen was the cheapest real ammo around and I used to be able to get that for 10$s/box of 20.

if anyone bought the Mannlicher - M95, Bulgarian version (Lion Mark) and wants to make a handsome profit, message me.

If they were International firearms back then or they're a totally different outfit?

If they are , I remember when they brought all kinds of cool H&K 91 to 94's, Famas, M14's norc AK'S etc...

Look at the M14 Norinco Prices!!

They wanted $700 back then, for what can be had for $400 today. (Supply and Demand!)

On a side note, some of you in Eastern Ontario may remember when LeBaron was actually a GOOD store. They used to have a catalog loaded with handguns, great Mil-Surps etc. Not anymore, They mostly cater to the "yuppy" outdoors folks now!!

I really enjoyed my trips to Century, visiting the showroom and touring the warehouse. Sold a LOT of guns through my little shop that I bought from them.

For a while in the 1960's I was purchasing guns from International Firearms and Century International and getting flyers from both. They both shared the same address but the prices from Century were sometimes signficantly lower for the same products. I remembrer .25 caliber semi autos for $12.95 and Rohm .22 revolvers for $4.00. That was back in the days when $8.00 was a full days wages rather than minimum wage like it is now.

Too bad Century and International never published the number of guns they did sell in Canada. I suspect is it a significant protion of the 7 million guns that are registered.

Le Baron's was one of their biggest Customers. I would make purchases from both; however, LeBaron's seem to have the better pick of the litter:

Lebaron and the CZ52/57

My biggest mistake... I had a LeBaron CZ52/57 that I bought for $200!!

Wish I never sold it. But as I started working, and could afford "quality, hunting type, non-surplus", I sold it.

Wish I never had. Now they are around $600 if you can find one!

They were beautifully made rifles.

I have their catalogues too, but I never had the disposable income to buy what they had at the time except for one barreled action for a 91/30 Mosin Nagant and an M44 stock one time. Built a MN scout rifle out of it and proceeded to go kill bears.

In 1994 new unissued #4 Mark 1 Lee Enfield rifles were $224.95

Very good M38 Swedish Mausers: $119.95

A buddy gave me one of the Centurion P14 rifles in 300 WM and it's my go-to moose/elk/bear rifle now.
