My guess is that he is probably part of the POMLT - they may have more relaxed rules on using third party optics.

Most of the guys I ran across in the battlegroup were using either the C79, iron sights or if they were lucky an issued EOTech (tended to be issued to those with C8s). The designated marksmen got Harris bipods and Leupold scopes.

A bunch of individuals i was doing a IPSC course with were buying their own optics for their future deployment. Most were buying eotech's but there was some talk of aimpoints as well. I assumed that was normal.

bdtyre is right. It's all about who you are working with. Depending on where you are, you may have to wear the junk issue tac vest.... then you could definitely forget about changing your optics!

Could be POMLT,, might not even be CF,, that second armed guy (not the local terp) is wearing the full tan and not the CADPAT version,, might be a civilian policeman (perhaps RCMP).

Like these guys,,

No offence but your pretty much all wrong about the optics and vests. For optics it's persanel choice, you can buy and put anything you want on as ling as you have some sort of cf optic on you weather it's the elcan or the battle sight and the odd guy gets issued something diff. As for vests, there are two companies other than cf crap you can wear, at least for Rcr, pickles can pretty much rock w/e they want same with the frenchies. This isn't just crap comming out my ass, I was on the battlegroup that's leaving this week and did all work up training until I couldn't get medicaly cleared from breaking my back a year ago and eye damage from the same time. As far as those photos go, I'm gonna say RCMP possibly

For sure, that's a CivPol and US PMT (US Police Mentoring Team- 4th guy in the stack) patrol with CF assistance. Most definitely a PRT (Provincial Reconstruction Team) patrol. CivPol carried the issue Elcan, but could attach anything they wanted.

I know that area well...we called it "Candy Cane lane" because of the red striping on the road median.

My boy is deploying in the next week. He's allowed to carry and wear what he likes because of the Company Commander. He'll be wearing a non-issue vest and EOTech when he gets in country.

Well I'll attempt to dissect this. Things may have changed since the last time I was over there, but you can't just "rock whatever you want". Maybe your CoC in the battle group says it's acceptable for you to use a none issue sight as long as you had something issue with you, but that's your CoC's say so. Other organizations are tighter controlled.

Everyone who's been over there knows that what the OMLT does is different from the BG and different from PRT and different from KAF....it definitely depends on what organization you belong to.

Angry,

CivPol got issued the CF vests and LBV's back in 2007-08. Before that, we had to waer the gray RCMP entry vests like you see the guy wearing in the second pic. When I first arrived, we were issued the RCMP gray's (Tac entry vest and gray tactical uniform). It was obviously impractical for the environment. That's actually my contingent in that pic.

In the middle our tour, that's when we got the CF CadPat vests and Tan combats.

Yes but I've never seen a police officer wearing the full CF uniform, RCMP or otherwise. Were you with the PRT for the first half of 08?

Like I said in the bg. And right now the bg going over is the most strict at te moment, some of my best friends just left that are in omlt, working with the mps and pmlt and there no where near as strict. They pretty much can rock whatever they want, I don't realy care about how it was, this is how it is now. I understand crap has to be givin the ok but at the moment the bg is the most strict about gucci kit and we are aloud to wear and "rock" any kind of optics, holster, packs just about anything. And my pickly buddies can do a lot more than us....

When we went on 3-08, during WORK UP training we couldn't use whatever we wanted... Once we were on the ground, we could use whatever.. ACOGs, EOTECHs, Elcans, tac vest, warlord, custom, whatever, bla bla bla...

In my lav we had like 4 different styles of chest rig going on, and 3 different kinds of optics.

But yes, CoC dictates... But whatever.

I rocked all 3 on my rifle at different times.

Yes, I was there at the beginning of 08.

As for the current deployment. My son is leaving with elements of the OMLT and yes, he can wear pretty much anything. I was pretty surprised to hear that, because the BG and elements at the PRT when I was there, had to adhere to strict rules on what they could deploy.

That said, I never saw any Canadians "rocking" any Trijicon ACOGs...most of them were using EOTechs...times are changing for the better.

I love iternet bickering.

1) Never seen the RCMP guys issued NV
So that fact the guys have NV helmet mounts and PEQ/PAC's not to mention other things are not RCMP.

2) The lead man (or at least lead in the pic) has in addition to his TCCC patch Oakleys, some sort of non issue glove, a SF 6004 holster and aftermarket vest with some creative pouch placement -- I doubt he cares what someone things of his issue.
Sadly he does not have a RAS :(

Some people get a little to wet dreamy about gear selections or who can or can't.

The KAC RAS are very very nice... :D

I think I knew one person there that wore issued boots. :D

And I don't think I knew anyone (outside of KAF) that used an issued holster either... I wonder why... ;)

I would have been there with you then. We probably went out on some patrols together. For the first month or so, our CoC flip flopped around on what vests we could or could not wear. After that it was pretty much open for whatever. Lots of guys modified their weapons but none were allowed to change optics...I tested that rule ;) All the Eotechs you saw were issued by our CQ.

Our Coy did get a pile of trial rigs which for the most part sucked. Most guys used TT Mavs and a few HSGI Warlords.
