CFB Petawawa CQB Clinic 05-06 September 2015 - Debrief here!!

Glad to see there are so many people from Qc this time around. Can't wait to meet all the newcomers! You guys are in for a treat, Barney's clinics are awesome.

Well, that's the intention... boost the number of CQB shooters east of the Ottawa River (also) and ensure that Memnoch has more and more QC and Eastern Ont CQB lovers. I cannot forget boosting/raising the numbers of shooters for the Langemark Range CQB matches at Base Borden. Everyone wins !!

What's not to like? Win- Win - Win situation !

Cheers,
Barney

EMT sent. If you are on the fence about this, don't be. Barney is a fantastic instructor and chalkriver is a gracious host. The learning environment is friendly and you will have a great time. Maybe I'll regret this next September when I'm paying much more to play again, but it is also massively underpriced for what you learn and get to do.

Hey I don't have an AR or anything restricted but I'd love to take this course!

I did it in June with my SKS...it can be done...and I wasn't the only one.

I'm assuming by nothing restricted you mean no pistol either? That one is tougher given there are a couple of pistol stages in the ORA CQB match.

I for one am all for promoting the sport to more people, however this clinic is definitely not appropriate for someone that has never handled a black rifle and a pistol before. It's not the best time to figure out how things work on a completely unknown platform.

RPAL is in the mail, I have done military service as a cmbt engr but I've never done any competitions for CQB, just training. after reading the description more carefully I think it's safe to say this course is a work up to a competition.

Damn, September came around fast eh?

Still a little short in the gear department. Would 3 weeks be enough time to get familiar enough with 'the right stuff' for the course?

I don't mind being a pylon, as long as it doesn't hold up the show.

Exactly...this is a perfect chance to become familiar with the ORA style of matches .Barney runs a great course with the first day being a lecture on gear and skills with some firing in the afternoon. The Sunday is for having a match with the emphasis on learning not the scores. And if you buy some 7.62x39 and 9mm ammo I can supply you with a SKS and we can share my Glock 34.

CoonT , yes you should be fine. Practise your pistol and rifle mag changes .

Ha! I think that in your case, having done military service, qualifies you for more than just "having no experience with this kind of thing". I take back what I said before.

Now this is exactly why I am sad I cannot make it up there this time...to steal Barney's line, what a great community.

Hope you guys have a great time -definitely see you at the next one.

Interesting, I love glocks they are so easy to manipulate! I do have an sks that I've tached out nicely. I'm not gonna lie the word competition makes me really nervous, haven't figured out why yet but I've always been that way.

As long as you have a holster, a sling and enough pockets to store 5 rifle and 2 pistol mags, you'll be fine. I did my first one with a $40 surplus chest rig...plus, after Barney is done with you, you'll probably want to change out your kit anyway...Enjoy.

EMT sent... ready for the fun times!

Glad to hear you can make it . For my SKS I made up some stripper clips cut down to hold 5 rounds with an inch or so overhang and the reloads went pretty good .

Pics from Junes clinic

Modified prone...notice the string...they are spaced every 5 yards and you advance from one to the other.
...you might hear Barney yell a couple hundred times over the weekend ...." Foot on the string weapons on safe ! "

Modified prone in the rain with an entrenching tool ( muzzle brake )

Skilledsapper:

Your EMT was perfectly done. We still have space but we are closing in on 28 bodies for the CQB Clinic limit.
Someone can / will always lend you a Glock. Just bring lots of your 9mm ammo for that clinic. Trust me, nobody shakes their head and says, "That weekend was a complete waste of time...."

Even the prime rib and / or steak at Danny's is fantastic, it rivals the jokes! ha ha ha ha

And yes it is a work up to competition. Very few ; if any of us will ever deploy into a shooting war. So this competition training is designed to bring you from condition white to the condition red continuum; and then keep you there thriving in condition red. :)

Bring on the noobie questions! Like..... What is prime rib like at Danny's Steak House?
