CFCST off to Bisley.

i thought of doing some 'training' at the Poco range but somehow don't think the RO will appreciate someone doing sets of jumping jacks and presses between every two shots.
Hmmmm...I guess I'll never know until I try it.
Lol!

You can train off-season with a treadmill. Run the interval, hop off, assume the position, hop back on.
Or, practice without a range - lay out the distance, run it, flop down, get up, run back to the starting point, repeat.
Add a rifle when you get to a range....
Or if you have a private back yard....

Guys, check my F-book for pics of the Year tabs that I mentioned picking up at the NRA.

Also, Fultons sells the crossed Lee Enfields with the year tab on them too.

Today was a meat grinder.I shot 6 matches. We started out with the Whitehead first thing in the morning. Now keep in mind we are wearing body armour and plates, tac vest that must weigh over 17lbs before ammo,a rifle and a helmet. All in all you're humping about 50-55lbs.In the Whitehead you have 3 minutes to run 500m.Down a road then back up.Then you dress onto the firing point and start a 400m rundown. The first phase is a 7 minute agony snap.Fig 12 target. Then you run to 300 and fire another snap from a trench.Run to 200m and shoot a 4 second snap where you have to start standing then drop to kneeling and fire.Do that for 10 shots. Then off to the 100m where you do the opposite and start kneeling and adopt the standing and fire 2 shots,5 times. That's one match.
Next we did a match involving a small obstical course and shooting down some targets that continue to pop up until you have them all down. It's timed so its a sprint. After that it was a snap match standing to kneeling again.200m.Target will come up somewhere in a 20 target frontage.

Next up was the Roupell match. Its shot on an electronic target range from 100-300m.100 target is a fig 14 and the 2 and 300 is a figure 12.
Start 100m back from the firing point and when the target comes up you have 25 seconds to get there, ready your rifle and shoot down the huns head.Another sprint. Then its basically a snap.
Once done get into a firing trench for another snap. The get out and you have a snap where you are 3 meters from a post. When the target comes up you have 6 second to get to the post, get down and fire one shot.Stay down for one more 3 second exposure, then get back up and do it all over again 4 more times. Finally you do another standing to kneeling snap for 10 shots. Then the match is over and you limp away to the next range. For me that was pistol which was kinda stupid so I won't waste any typing on it.
The final match was the Advanced encounter which is 10 exposures of a moving target. You are standing at 100m out of the aim.The target comes out from behind one wall and goes 20m behind another wall. The time it takes to travel that distance in either 6 seconds or 3 seconds. You don't know which until you see the target. So basically you wait for the target to appear to bring up your rifle, then you have to figure out if its a fast or slow exposure, then you have to find the right lead and finally squeeze off a shot.Mucho fun.
My legs are pretty cooked right now and I'm exhausted.Tomorow we have 4 more similar matches that involve more running and even carrying a 175lb dummy 300m before a 600m section attack.

We finished the TA matches yesterday and it look like we won 3 matches came in second in a couple and third in a couple. We were only shooting for honours though as we had 1 reg force shooter with us to make up the team of 8.Well done to all.

Today we start CENTSAM and NRA matches which, for the most part, are shot concurrently.Today we have the basic movers,FIBUA and the Whitehead(500m sprint).Tonight at 1am we shoot a night match.

Day 2 for the heavy duty matches done.We finished up with the Para cup which involves a 175lb dummy carry 300m, bomb up 8 mags from a loose pile of ammo and get ready to launch in 6 minutes for your 4 man team. Then you do a 600m (in bounds of 35m or so) section attack, stopping every 100m to fire at various pop-up targets from various shooting positions.Did I mention its 30+ again today? All this after 4 other matches ,most of which involve some running or sprinting in full kit(55lbs).
A lot of us are beat up.Legs, knees, hammies are all feeling the brunt of it.Time for a seriously hot shower.
Tomorow we shoot the Queen Mary which although it involves some running, are a little more static, traditional style matches. It will be a welcome change.

Oh yeah.We also managed to win 3 golds,3 silvers and a bronze medal at the Territorial Army matches we used as practice! ;)

We rocked Para cup as a team today! Great shooting and we had a great run with the dummy even though it hurt. BTW we were also up until about 0230-0300 the night before doing a night shoot which we did well on. Finished today feeling great and we will dominate the Queen Mary!

Time for some beer, advil, and proper English food.:D

Interesting shoot this morning. Almost the same as some of the DCRA/CFSAC matches we are all used to. Almost, change a few things like round instead of Canadian rectangular scoring areas and our three week old zeros on Century range. Then give only two sighters for the day and dive into the 500 rapid , 500-100 rundown, 300 snap and rapid. It will be interesting to visit the wailing wall and see where we all placed.

The last few days here at Bisley have been good and trying at the same time. The team performed quite well.I managed to win the overall Queen Mary match, which was pretty cool!Edged our an Omani by one point.I'll take it!Our 6 man team placed second overall today in the Methune Cup.Only edged out by the Omani's.Then, when we were shooting the United Service Challenge,we caught the Omani's cheating.Gunnerlove actually noticed it first. In practice 3 you are at 100y and you fire one shot standing and then one shot kneeling. One shot per 3 second exposure on a figure 12c at 100y.It's a challenging match and getting 10 hits is a feat.Well we caught the Omani's purposly missing the standing exposure and firing 2 on the kneeling which is much more supported and stable. We couldn't believe it(well actually we could) so we alerted the range o's and they watched the next relay and voila! They did it again.I guess they thought no one would notice. The Sultan of Oman's personal shooting team has been shooting Bisley for more than 20 years. Some of the shooters have been here every year in that time. They know the matches. We shot this very same match at least 5-6 time while we've been here.It was done on purpose to get better scores. Not only were they caught by us,but the Kiwi's were marking their targets in the butts and noticed the two shots kneeling also and alerted the butts O.In the end those shooters should have been given a zero according to the rules.Purposefully cheating is an instant DQ.Instead the RCO decided it was a mistake(by multiple seperate people) and assesed them a 5% of thier score penalty. In other word they lost 5 points.Big Fricken deal.
Anyways they went on to win of course and the ####ty part is they beat the British Army Combat Shooting Team by 30 points. If they had been DQ'd like they should have been the Brit's would have had the trophy. They were the real winners in my mind anyways.
At the trophy presentation, when they got called up,the Canadians,Kiwi's and BACST along with a couple of other teams who knew the score, didn't clap as they were presented the trophy. It caused a big stink with the Omani's but personally I think they got more than they deserved.
In my mind,I have no problem with getting crushed by a better team if they out shoot me.But if they out cheat me and still claim victory then I'm sorry but your reputation is no longer valid. As long as I am shooting Bisley matches,I will ALWAYS view the Omani's as cheaters. All the trophies they won this year aren't valid as far as I'm concerned.

Sorry for the rant but it was extremely frustrating to have the best shooters in Canada laying on the line shooting thier hearts out and these turds come along and beat us by cheating. And then their coach/mentor(an SAS guy)has the stones to tell us we're as bad as them for not clapping.#### off!

Good sportsman ship starts by not cheating to win! They should be happy you all didn't boo them or walk out on the awards ceremony.

Well done boys you'll get them next year!

THey should have have two different 12C targets and the problem will be solved!!!

Hhaha, but getting caught at Bisley just stinks. It says so much about the Omani military......

THey should have have two different 12C targets and the problem will be solved!!!...

Bingo! That would solve the problem.

This same trick could be done during the first stage of the FIBUA Match. In Canada I would expect a DQ.

That's unbelievable.
Or is it?
Has this been a reoccurring event there over the years?
In any case, the fact that officials didn't follow the rules really tarnishes the reputation of the competition itself.
Maybe it's the politics involved; Britain not only does most of the supplying of vehicles and weapons to the Omanis but they also have a ongoing Brit-loan system of British Officers in service with the Omani's.
Guess they didn't want to offend a 'client state'.
Oh well.
But good work anyhow guys.
Hurry home for beers!

So it looks like we have a few more accolaides.Along with my Queen Mary win and a second place finish in another match, one of the Particia's won the Standing match. This one is as described above. At 100y you get a 3 second exposure of a figure 12c(little one),you have to break the aim in between so you have 3 seconds to get off a shot standing, then it dissappears and comes back up at which time you fire a shot kneeling.A fig 12c is a pretty small target for standing and such a quick exposure.Cpl.Voltz 3 PPCLI won the match out right with an incredible 10-0.
The fig 12c over here has a smaller bull on it than ours at home as well.
The team also won the Brinsmead Trophy which is a really cool shield.Very old with a lot of history on it.
Many shooters also took home bronze medals and bronze bars.
Overall a great shoot for our guys and our country.
Now time to heal up.LOL.

I need some freakin' leave. This has been my best shooting experience ever but thoroughly exhausting.

What a privilege it has been to shoot with these guys! The whole team this year shot like champions and pulled off some great victories. Most importantly the team competed fairly, acted like professionals and warriors, and left having made great comrades with some of our allies. Just not the Omanis. :p

Congrats to Longshot who was the big winner on the team with the Queen Mary and my teammate on the Brinsmead. Gold at Bisley! Hell yeah!
