Hi guys I just picked up a few lb of cfe223 and am going to be loading campro 55gr fmj projectiles.

There are only 2 options on hodgesons website. Anyone have experience using this powder. Up to now I've only been using h322

I'm loading for plinking ammo only. My Ars have huge appetite so hitting my 8"gong out to 200yd is all I'm after.

I'm loading on the dillon 650

I tested powder charges of 24 to 28 grs in my AR15 with no signs of overpressure. It's going to be for plinking so I'm using the minimum that will cycle reliably (25 grs).

works fine for me with 27

campro lists:

So everybody on here simply assumes that CFE223 powder is used only in a .223? Not one thing in the original question indicates that. Makes me shake my head.

Not sure what you're getting at. He's shooting an at which are generally chambered in 223. 55gr fmj is a pretty typical bullet for 223. Not sure what all the fuss is about.

I've tried it 6.5x55...
I think it's a fair point to not take anything for granted. I'm curious what other possible choices leap to mind in an AR with 55gr campro fmj?

If it ever comes back WC735 surplus powder from Higginsons is a fantastic powder for 55-62gr. fMJ with a near perfect charge Ratio of 23-24 grains for max velocities. If I was looking at a powder today for cheap plinking with 55gr fodder, I'd look at maybe the D4198 that Canada Ammo has for $125/5lbs.

I tend to avoid powders that need a long drop tube or compression to get the velocities or that have data with narrow windows of min./max. Charges. It seems to me these are just not optimum in the burn rate for the charge/cartridge/bullet combination.

Seriously? Instead of #####ing that everyone is assuming (the op didn't tell us what calibre he is reloading so all we can do is assume) he is loading 223, why not offer other loads for that powder and a 223 55gr bullet?

Shaking MY head...

How well does CFE223 go through a charge thrower? Tried running Varget through mine - won't make that mistake again... :(

CFE223 is ball powder, so like any other ball powder, it meters really well. I have the same problem with varget in my dillon measure, but none with CFE223. always spot on which was the reason I bought it. I leave Varget for my bolt action due to outdoor temp. sensitivity and obviously I am not loading a lot for bolt action, so manual powder charge is fine.

no one on this thread ever said anything about what cfe223 good for what caliber. everyone has been focusing on answering op's question which is cf223 with 55gr on his ARs! Out of all the calibers available on AR platform, which ones are using 55gr?
if you can't read the topic carefully and then just started #####ing, the joke is on you.
