chamberings on -06 head sized bolt faces?

280 rem! Love mine! Also love my 280ai!

Thats possibly one of the Sweet spots IMO, for an "All round" hunting gun, .280 rem - .30-06 - 338-06 All fit the bill pretty perfectly, its once you get into niche applications- example- bush stalking bugling elk? is where the .35-06 starts to fit right in- * any critter large boned close quaters.

its the other end of spectrum when a "deer" only rifle is needed, an thats where the 25-06 and 270Win make waves, imo :)

Ive not shot my 35 Whelen much of past few years, im finding for what im doing , the 30-06 is a sweet spot for placing shots and hitting where im aiming :) an even then at times that is debatable... :/

at one period i had a rem 700 .270win for our fallow deer, an used the Whelen for the Sambar...... then i did a few full circles on calibres to end up here. 7-08 / 3006

Years back I built a 280Rem on the original Rem700 Titanium. Recently I finished a 35Whelen build. Wishing I had built the 35 on the Titanium instead of the 280.

This is a bit odd, not at all like the others, LoL.
A writer with some chops recalled a Mentor screwing a garbage bbl off of a 1891 Chilean & screwing on a 45 ACP bbl to teach kids about firing a 'Big' gun.
Got the Chilean cheap....it's in too good of shape to perform this action though.
But that is the plan, so 45 ACP is sometime gonna happen...common Bolt Face with the -06

I did a Swede 96 up in 45 ACP that was a great little bugger for pest critters & deer inside 80 yds. Sold 'er after a few yrs to an amigo that re-chambered it to 45 Win Mag.
Me current 45 ACP rifle is one I built up using a Lee Enfield No 4 action that shoots tight as well.
