So Im currently running an EO setup on my rig and Im tossing around the idea of selling that setup off and going to a Viper PST 1-4 with the ADM mount. What do you guys think, no good? ...Thoughts?

Heres my current setup,

I own a PST 1-4 on ADM. I'll be posting pics in a day or two here, but I can tell you now that I love that fricken scope.

Are you unhappy with the EOTech?

Have you looked through a Viper, or put rounds through an AR with a Viper on it?

I'm not suggesting that one would be better than the other - just that it might be a good idea to look through someone else's, atop an AR before making the switch.

I'm not unhappy with the EO setup, infact it kicks ass... I jus like trying new gear and I'm looking for a change of pace. I've herd that the 1-4 functions kind of like an aimpoint red dot in terms of finding the reticle and putting it on target. Is it feesable to use this optic for a CQB setup? or is it more tailored to longer range shooting, (50-100 yards)

Check out what tops the OSTS and NEA rifles on the right hand side of the picture. (yes, there are rifles in the pic)

If you just want to try new things, and have the coin to spend - why not pick one up to try it out? Sell off the one you like least, afterwards. Or see if someone shoots on your range, who already has the optic mounted.

I can't speak for the Vortex stuff, but if it is anything like the Nightforce 1-4 or S&B Shortdot in design/concept - then it would be quite usable at short range.

I had a Vortex 1-4x PST w/ADR mount on my 16" AR. In terms of optical quality, I was happy. I found the battery like for the illuminated reticle so-so, but at the range I never really needed it, so that wasn't a problem. However, I did not like extra weight it added to that particular rifle, and in terms of balance as well. So I sold it, and the mount, and bought an Aimpoint Pro instead, which I'm very happy with.

Would I buy another Vortex? Yes, absolutely. I was not happy with the ADR mount, I felt it was too loose. The CGN member I sold the scope and mount to was informed of this before he bought it, and he also found it loose. Maybe Vortex/ADR can rectify the problem with a replacement, but I didn't try.

In the end, it came down to how the rifle felt in my hands, and I'm happier with the Aimpoint.

ETA: OP, if you can, I would suggest keeping your existing optics package until at least you've picked up your new one, and learned whether you like it or not. Sometimes that not a feasible option, but IMO its the smart move.

The mount is adjustable to allow you to tighten or loosen it on the rail. Simply adjust the nut on the opposite side of the lever.

Well I was in Kelowna this weekend and I went into Grouse River Outfitters and sure enough they had 4 in stock with the MRad reticle. I prefer MOA but I figure with this type of setup after I zero it I would never adjust it, so I took the plunge. A buddy of mine said he'd buy my EO setup so all in all everything worked out.

Looking this unit over it is very nice, just like my other PST scope. I feel confident that this unit will work fine for me, clarity is great and the reticle is clear and fast to locate. It seems most guys are going the 1-4 route anyway, so I might aswell follow suit...

Yeah, did that initially and it tightened it up a lot, but the optic was still prone to movement and POI shifting between range trips.

Weaver rail instead of picatinny?

Not unless the KAC SR-15 you sold me is a special edition ;)

ETA: Yes, I could have contacted you about the ADR mount, but by that point I had decided I wanted an Aimpoint, and sold off the Vortex and mount to fund it. I'm happy with what I've got now. Would I buy a 1-4x in the future? Probably. Would I buy a Vortex again? From you, yes.

So I got home yesterday from Kelowna, took off the EO system and put on the new Viper 1-4. At first glance it took some getting used to (the EO system looks sweet) but after fondling it all morning I've decided it's a keeper. In terms of function, the reticle is fast and easy to acquire, IMO no different then the EOtech or Aimpoint. So the usability seems to be the same as my EO setup, really the only difference is the two units are packaged differently. In regards to quality, it's identical to my 6-24x50 PST and it's absolutely gorgeous. For now I think I'll run with it and hope for the best...

I own 3 ADM mounts with Nightforce optics in them that I shoot from zero to 900m for the past several years...I've never had issues with these mounts or optics shifting in them.
