Hi all,

I am a new shooter with the above firearm. I've recently gotten into IDPA and IPSC. in IPSC, production division I have to run in DA, and it is super heavy. I'd like to lighten it up. I'd also like to calm the recoil down a little too.

I've read that changing the recoil and main spring would help with both of these and I'm hoping for some pointers on selecting the most appropriate for the gun and ammo.

I usually shoot with 124grain blazers and occasionally 115grain whatever-might-be-on-sale.

What poundage springs would I need to choose for either of these bullets? If it means sticking with a certain grain weight then I would stick with 124.

Are any brands better/ worse than others?

Are there any gotchas I should keep in mind when changing them?

Is changing the springs actually what I need to do? Or should I do something else?

Is it something someone handy with tools can do? Or should it be left to a pro?

Anything else I should be aware of?

Thanks in advance!

Changing springs doesn't take any skills or tool wielding ability. For several years I ran a CZ Custom 13lb Main spring and 11lb recoil spring and it made a big difference then when I had the chance I got a CGW 11.5 Main spring and that made the DA even lighter but still within the IPSC 5lb limit.

@chilldip. Thanks so much.

Have you experienced any issues with those combinations and the rounds you're using? What grain bullets work with those? If I just jumped into 11# recoil and 11.5# main you feel that would be a good upgrade?

Thanks again :)

I've likely shot 50k plus rounds with that combo. I did have some issues with cheap Dominion primers a while back but other than that the gun was 100% on all other brands. I shoot 147 grain but shot what ever I could get the cheapest before I started to reload.

On my SP-01 Shadow I did go to a CZ Rami firing pin spring, on both of Shadow 2's they ended up using the stock setup. I ordered one of the CGW reduced FP springs but it gave me issues in my Shadow 2, I later found out they recommend only using their spring with their extended firing pin, although I see on Josko's sight it says it fits all of the Shadow's so maybe it has been changed since I tried.

Exactly and shoot a few thousand or dry fire to smooth the trigger action. No need to change firing pin spring but buy a few spare parts like slide stop, extractor with spring and pin if you can find them. They do brake during matches so good to have those.

Thanks again folks I've ordered the CGW 11# recoil, 11.5# main and a reduced firing pin spring just in case.

Great point on the parts for matches! I'll get some of those in too.

Cheers!
