Hey everyone. Just inherited my father-in-laws 1974 Rem 700 ADL (blind mag) in 7mm magnum. I really dont like blind mags at all for hunting or just in general.
What would I look for to change the stock to a drop plate configuration. Just a BDL stock for a long action? Or were there magnum length stocks?
My other question is that I want to change the trigger to a triggertech. Because I hear there were multiple generations of triggers used, will the basic triggertech 700 trigger fit a 1974 with the grooved trigger face?
Thanks everyone. I really liked my father-in-law and want to make this one of my dedicated moose rifles. Not a lover of 7mm per se, but I want to remember him. This gun has downed 25 moose and about 15 caribou. It got mojo!! So I need to make this gun more friendly to me. I will still keep the original parts, but dont want to ruin the wood stock. I hunt a hard hunt every year. In muddy rainy ravines, rivers, snow, mountainous areas, and I dont want to be worried about gouging the original stock up. I fall in at least 1 river every year plus trip ALL THE DAMN TIME. My boots are huge.

Same action length bdl stock, ditto bottom metal, magazine box, and follower with spring. Make sure the follower and box are correct for the cartridge you have. Dont know about the trigger sorry, I usually just tune the one that is in there. 70's triggers can be set up very nicely. Guntech on here offers the service , I believe, if you arent comfortable doing it yourself. - dan

I changed out an ADL [bling mag] to BDL [hinged floor plate] configuration.

The original action was in .30-06 & the old stock was well worn. Ended up rebarreling it as well to 7mm-08 with an exc factory take-off barrel picked up at a gunshow. Put the action in a vintage mountain rifle stock & added the hinged floorplate/mag box etc. Stock & mag parts came off the EE here. Turned out ok:

Just ensure that the stock, mag parts etc are compatible with your rifle's action.

Actually, quite simple swap. You will need the BDL stock, the floorplate and the magazine box.
You may also need the spring and follower, although I have had ADL originals that work.

The triggertech is a good option, if you cannot get the original trigger tuned by someone who
knows what they are doing. Easy swap as well. Dave.

Nothing wrong with the original trigger I would get it set up as said it’s better than most .
The magizine box with have your come from a bdl donner other than that a easy swap

Were there any problems with the 7-08 in a long action?

At one time, I considered doing the same with a fast twist 243. Went with a 6CM instead.
