Guess?
What is the word on these revolvers? Particularly the .357 model. I cannot seem to find much on them. I know Marstar and Milarms carry them, but are they decent shooters?

...... Chaparral is simply a brand name. Are they Pedersoli or Uberti? - dan
Incorrect, actually - Chaparral is indeed a manufacturer, albeit the "new kid on the block", as it were ..... http://www.chaparralarms.com/index.htm

Also, Pedersoli does not make cartridge revolvers at all. The other two big Italian manufacturers of single action revolvers, who have been around for longer than Chaparral, are Uberti (now part of the Benelli/Beretta group - http://www.uberti.com/) and Pietta (http://www.pietta.it/)

I don't know Grant. I have a friend who lives in the area (Tuscany) and he tells me that basically it's two companies, many names, and a lot of cottage machinists. I have no reason not to believe him. He's bought from and dealt with most of them. He (and I) could be wrong though. FWIW - dan

Yes, it may be impossible to ever be able to say for sure! ;)

I do know that both Uberti and Pedersoli are located in the same town in Brescia province in Lombardy - the region where most of this gun manufacturing takes place - i.e. in Gardone (Val Trompia) and maybe that is what he has in mind, or has heard ..... (As I mentioned, if you check Pedersoli's line, you will see that they neither make or market any SAA/Model1873 replicas and in fact no cartridge revolvers at all ....)

However, Pietta is located in Gussago, and Chaparral (which has only been on the scene for a few years and is apparently a consortium formed by many of the smaller parts manufacturers who lost work when Benelli/Beretta absorbed Uberti, as I understand it) is located in the city of Brescia -

I am pretty sure Uberti makes the guns for Cimarron.

"Cimarron keeps a small inventory of 19th century Colts on hand at the Uberti factory and acquires special tooling used by Uberti to produce some Cimarron models."

from the cimarron website

When it comes to Italian SAA revolvers, there are 3 companies making them - Uberti, Pietta, and the new kid on the block, Chaparral. A bunch of companies in the US rebrand Uberti guns - Cimarron, Navy Arms, Taylors, etc. A few rebrand Pietta guns - Charles Daly, Great Western II, etc. As far as I know Chaparral only brands theirs as Chaparral.

I've heard that Pietta are the ones who make the Cimarron revolvers.

Before i puchased two Chaparrals in .45 LC,
i did lots of research and i think i read somewhere
that Chapparral was indeed started by former employees
of well known gunmakers laid off ,
and they also made guns for a couple of other names.
I think Cimarron was one of them, but cant 100% remember.

Getting back to the Chaparrels.
One was good right out of the box,
the other needed a trigger/sear replaced (warranty)
and i had to take the gun apart to better polish
internel parts.
After that they both work great.
This inconvience was well worth the money i saved buying these models.
They are almost identical to Piettas that my buddy has.
Accuracy in beginning was not great,
but after shooting them in , the groups tightened right up.
I shoot home casted bullets with cowboys loads,
with no leading.
200grain round nose flat points, behind 5.2 grains of titegroup.

Chapparral SAA

I just purchased one of the Chapparral SAA's, .45 Colt with 4.75" barrel.
Ordered it from Marstar.
As soon as it arrives I will take it to the club and put it up against my Old model Vaquero.

Will post back on how it goes.

Chaparral SAA

Just returned from the gun club with my new Chaparral Arms SAA.
The gun is chambered for .45 Colt, has a 4.75" barrel and the colour case hardened finish.

Looks.....Very nice, nice wood and bluing/case hardeneing.

Shoots....a little high but windage is perfect, very consistent with no flyers.

Action....a little rough but I expect it to smooth out with use. Trigger pull is nice, very much like my well used Vaquero.

At $379.00 new from Marstar, I would buy another. This gun is not as nice my old model Vaquero (yet) but at half the price and shooting great right out of the hardcase it came in, I can't complain.

As for Marstar....Nice, friendly people that delivered what I ordered in the time they quoted me. Will buy from them again.

30 rounds down the tube, 225 grain lead flat nose conical over 5.9 grains of Titegroup.
