Cheap home defense style shotgun?

question out here in bc you can buy rocksalt 12 gauge rounds,there used for cows,well thats what i have been told.now they break skin but they dont kill.
the only reson i bring this up is would it be ok to use them to stop a crack head from breaking into my shead?

I have never seen any for sale, also if they get wet or simply soak up our wet west coast air you could end up with a very deadly salt slug.

Also If anyone was caught using these on livestock they would be in big crap from the local SPCA, and RCMP.

from what i have been told is you can buy them at farm supply stores,now i may be wrong i have never actully seen them.
 
Ahhh, the good 'ol days when you could shoot livestock, neighbors kids, daughters boyfriend, drunkards etc. in the a$$ with rock salt and not be convicted of animal / child abuse, or assault and discharge of a firearm etc. etc..

Read that rock salt experiment, might as well get a pellet gun if all your going to do is bruise'em. Less legal trouble that way I'm sure. Maybe affix a bayonet just in case that pellet doesn't knock'em down :p
