Cheap shotgun

I have no idea why a person would look down on shotguns, unless you are talking the crappy junk made to look like military assault rifles, a shotgun is the most practical firearm there is.

I've owned many shotguns over the years, and you can't go wrong with an 870 or Mossberg 500 or 88, but if you want to go super cheap you will not find a better deal than the Stevens 320 combo from Cabelas, they are a Winchester 1200 clone made in China for Stevens/Savage and for $279( on sale) they are a friggen tank. They come with an 18" and a 28" barrel and I have abused the hell out of mine and it is flawless. Best deal I have ever got on a gun period

Works with 500 barrels and accessories and mods aside from fore end

Well I have to agree.
I have had a bunch of different shotguns over the years, and always came back to the Maverick.
I used one in 3 gun events as well.

Hey thanks so much for the feedback so I got a 870 and was able to get a great deal on an auto 5 for a semi. Now I’d like to find a cheap O/U, which seems like a challenge.

Good for you . I hate to say it but after blasting off a few rounds in those shotguns you'll be hooked . I'm glad you bought the 870 and I know of a few friends who own the auto 5s and love them . I've never had a auto 5 apart but I have heard they have a few small parts. good luck with both of them and happy hunting .

I was at the gun shop last night to buy a few things, asked about a cheap shotgun, I threw out a few names. Guy recommended a Maverick 88.

upgrade the extractor with the improved one - keep the shot gun well oiled - and shoot the chit out of it - had a 870 for 9 years still looked good as new - sold it (foot still in mouth) looking to sell a BPS in the near future to get a Wingmaster

I've had all kinds of shotguns through the years, semi, o/u, pump, s/s, many of which I still have. I know I'm giving away my age by saying this, but of all of them I like my Remington 1100s the best. These can be found at pretty low prices on the EE. In recent history, I decided to give Stoeger a shot:), because a friend has one and he really likes it. Two years down the road, and a few thousand rounds later, they are still going strong. I've used them for trap and skeet, duck hunting, and upland hunting. Next, I may use a rifled choke tube, and mount a scope, and try my luck on deer, with one of them. Oh, I almost forgot, the two shotguns are the M3k, and the 3500. As I have written, they have served me well, up til now, and they didn't break the bank to buy. I did shorten the stock on both of them and added limbsaver recoil pads, changed the extractor to benelli, and changed the hammer spring to one from Taran tactical. I did that to lighten the trigger pull. It made a difference

Guy says he hates shotguns and then after one thread goes and buys two of 'em. I don't get it, man.

Wondered the same thing...but hey, he's got a couple of nice ones now! :)

OP~curious about the decision to buy the Auto 5~is it a new gun, or an older one? Great guns, but old ones have fixed chokes/not interchangeable. Is that what you got? Only asking because if it is, you need to know that if the fixed choke is FULL, you can't run steel shot or slugs through it. Still a dandy grouse/rabbit/clays slayer! Always wanted one...but I have an old Remington 11-48 that is also recoil operated.

You come into the Shotgun forum and tell us you look down on shotguns, then want our advice?

Hang on, let me see what I can dig up for you.
