Check out the freak my buddy shot.

I heard cross bread mulie/ whitetails were infertile?... Good you shot the freak.

No one wants mule deer in Manitoba... They knock out the whitetails, weaken the gene pool when bred with resident deer, and next thing you know, youll have to buy mule tags as well:mad:
The province has them as un huntable.... In other words, they want them to move in and take over.
Not a good idea in my opinion.

STOP!!!!....Don't eat that meat! There maybe something wrong with it too! Just send it to me, and I will let you know if it's OK or not!:p Great job guys, and thanks for the interesting pics!

I have a bigger deer with the same kind of mess. I help a guy that raises whitetails and things like that happen when they damage a velvet antler. One year we were TB testing and a two year old wasn`t co-operating and he dinged up his antlers. Every place that was scraped and bleading grew a point and he was an awesome non-typical for that year. The next year he was normal again.

I have a few White-tail antler sets that are branched ....similar to Mulie antlers.
Never have seen a Mulie around these parts though (Dryden area)

I believe its the other way around,a WT can breed a MD doe but the offspring will be infertile.A MD can't breed a WT doe.WT will push out MD populations which is why this year in B.C. they opened up a WT doe season.

If thats true... that white tails are the more aggressive?, then why are mule deer showing up in SW Manitoba?... Theres plenty of white tails to show whose boss.
Wouldn't the white tail bucks send them back west, from where they came, if they were the more dominant deer:confused:?....

In my area WT's are an invasive species. They are moving in and desplacing the mule deer. They are much more aggressive than mule deer.

If I were to guess I'd say MD in Manitoba are being protected because were once pushed out by WT and they are hoping to reestablish them.I don't know if that is the case I know nothing about the hunting situation in Manitoba.

I'd rather bag a big mulie anyday over a whitetail lol.

Good points, and well taken.
I was told last week from a Manitoban, that the mulies were more aggressive?. I dont know which is true...

I should also ad that there were never any mule deer in recorded history that the farmers I hunt with can remember. That goes back to the 1950,s I believe when the white tails must have come up from North Dakota, or Saskatchewan.
