I opted out of a hunt last night because of some other obligations, and man am I regretting it.

My brother and some good friends went out field hunting for some ducks and the 4 of them were 3 birds away from their limit but only recovered 17. It was the kind of night that a dog would have really been an asset.

The best part is that they shot the white duck I showed pictures of during the early goose season. I don't know if any of you will recall the pictures I showed of a white duck flying into our decoys while goose hunting but we had it buzz our heads a couple times and hoped it would stick around long enough for the season to open. Sure enough, they went to this field tonight and in it came. Despite the flock of well over a hundred mallards, two of them unloaded on this one bird. Take a look at the pictures.

You can see it's size matches a mallard so I don't think it is a domestic.

But you can clearly see it is not an albino

Is it perhaps a piebald?

There is one black spot on it's back which you can't see in any of these photos.

Any ideas what it is?

I don't know what to call that color phase, but I'd sure as hell stuff it for the wall!!! You won't get another one, that's for damn sure!!!

Cheers

P.S. Oct. 1st is our first day out around here, I can hardly sleep!

I'm thinking you guys were hunting down at the Peterborough Zoo
Seriously ... you should check that out it is very unusual... I have seen domestics with Mallards but not like that :?

The breasts have already been cut out of it. I think it should have been put in the freezer for a mount.

It was a pretty cool looking little fella.
