Alright, after reading everyones threads and looking at pics of all these fantastic Antique firearms, I am going to dive in! Can anyone tell me where I can find a list of years of manufacture for particular firearms? Is there a central website or something? Or do I have to google and hope to find it there? (already tried that without success) Found a Russian girl with a set of 44's, but I was looking for S&W .44 russian info. still it was a nice break from searching.:D I am looking at bringing in either an old .455 webley or .44 russian(not the girl,,,well maybe her too!) or a colt .41 thunderer/lightning.
Any help on where to look to match a serial # to a year would be appreciated! Might even send the link to the russian chick! :p

OK, never mind, after a couple hours on the net and other gunnut sites I found out there are no good lists of serial#/ years of manufacture. So I did what one guy said he did. I called the factory, they put me through to Roy himself ( Historian for S&W) nice guy ,and he does not have a computer list just a big book! Found out 1 S&W .44 rus I was looking at was made in 1898, so very glad I called, cant bring it into Canada under Antique!
Discovered a few cool things and I will now be bidding ,up to a point. Now I need to try and find a list for Webley serial #/ years of Manufacture!! To bad there wasn't a book with lists, that would save time!

35###,So in the low 35000's he said it was shipped in 1898 which by what he was saying is what they use as manufacture date. The frame's, he said may have been made previously but they were assembled and shipped sometime in 1898, and it was nice pearl handles not bad shape. I wish ours was like the U.S. and 1898 was included but I guess they have to stop somewhere!

The S&W New Model Number 3s are all pre 1898 the frames were all made before dec 31st 1897
We dont care when they were shiped or sold its Date of manufacture of the frames is all we care about.
CFC say all S&W NM#3s are antique by date of manufacture but check the caliber.

The S&W DA frist models do have a ser # cut off tho its in the 52000s or so you should check with CFC on guns that have cut off ser#s not just take someones advise on the forms here.
some of the guys here dont have a clue and guess half the time as to the cut off ser#s ect. I dont even like saying them because they do change from time to time but this info i have given you is safe.
PM me if you have any questions if i can help you i will.

All S&W New model number 3s are ok tho just make sure there in a OK caliber most are 44 russian.
