Cheek pad?

I added a red dot to my Stevens 320 that I’m setting up as a turkey gun. Do you guys recommend a cheekpad riser on the butt stock when using optics? This is my first time putting an optic on a shotgun

In my experience it depends on the specific red dot height, how far forward you mount the optic as well as how your face rests on the stock. Something like a TRS-25 sits quite low and may not require a cheek riser. There is only one sure way to know, mount the red dot and test it how you intend to use it.

Thanks for the reply

Instead of an actual molded cheek riser, I use a Beretta Gel Pad on the buttstock.
They are available in a 4 or 6 mm thickness. They simply wrap over the comb of the shotgun and stick to it. I have a few of them, use a 6mm on my Tactical M2 clone and it gives me enough rise for the red dot. They are also very helpful at reducing felt recoil on the cheekbone. Stoeger Canada carries them. They can be removed and reused on different shotguns/ rifles as you simply need to wash the backing with soap and water to reuse them

Just a thought. On my CZ-VMTR I use some foam 'mouse-pad'(double-layered) wrapped in Duck tape and attached with Alien-tape, to 'get up to' my 56mm scope. the Alien-tape is ca 5-6mm thick and could be covered with a fabric of your choice. A-T is sorta 'gel-like'and lots on a roll 😉 Please, NO floral prints OR Leopards LOL !

Yes, for sure! My test method is to close my eyes, position my head in the most comfortable way in the stock, then open my eyes to see how far I am with the scope, then try to adjust your cheek pad.b2d5d67fc64af2fefbb5b324d3f31adc.jpg

E - That looks nice. I have a few of those 'strap-on pads' - they come off easy for cleaning cra* if the stock gets dirty. And can be adjusted easily, too. Amazon for ca $10 or so when I bought 'em.

Yeah, the only thing worth mentioning is the quality—too many loose threads—but for $10 and decent functionality, it’s hard to complain.

as a friend, bro...that looks like a$$, and not very secure.
Perfect! My mission was to make sure that the turkeys last thought was “damn that gun looks like a&$”

As for being secure? It certainly feels very secure. I’ll safely test fire it before hunting with it. The whole point of it is function not form. And if it doesn’t function the way I need it too it will be removed. But if it functions as I think it will, I don’t give a $%# what it looks like.

Since Wednesday, I ordered and have had delivered a 6mm Beretta Gel Pad, and my gawd, where has this thing been all my life!! The very best $40 I've ever spent.

I aslo bought one of these for a different shotgun, and while I like it fine enough for the money spent, the GEL Pad is 100% the way to go.

Glad you like it 😊
I have a few of them lol, I have a thin face and take a lot of slap to the cheekbone, these mitigate that very well in my opinion.

It really is remarkable, both how much of an improvement it is, and how quickly Stoeger shipped. I foresee more of them in my future. Thanks again, I'd never heard of them, or seen them, before your tip.
