Hey Guys,
I have that Falcon Menace on my 700XCR with med Tally rings and a Bell & Carlson stock.

My cheek weld SUCKS. I'm almost positive that the reason I can't shoot prone is because I can't support my head on the stock and I'm willing to bet that a crap weld is affecting my accuracy off the bench too. I'm thinking that one of these might be a good idea:

Thoughts? What do you guys do? Do you worry about comb height?

You could try an Eagle Industries stock pack; they have a nice padded riser built in and you can carry ammo and other items in the zippered pouch.

I have one on my LTR and it's really comfortable.:) You can add foam or other material under the comb to raise it up even more if required and you don't have to modify your stock.

Interesting Idea. I'm just wondering how much that is going to move. Those plastic, bolt on units should be solid....

Once the straps are tight it doesn't move.
I have used foam from mouse pads to increase the height on my LTR.

M305

I've got a very similar one on my M305 and is works well for that rifle. I was not too frightened to drill through the chew wood. For some of my other rifles, I've made a riser spacer from wood for a Tikks T3 HB.

On a Savage 12BVSS-S I purchased a suede unit from an english friend and it works great, various thickness risers were included that could be cut for a specific cheek weld. Only down side was the cost, 75lbs but I didn't pay that for it.

Bear makes neoprene stock "savers" that can also be used as riser pads. These won't slip either as the inside is like ruber and klings to wood or synthetic.

There are several options out there for you to use. Personally for me I would find your unit above harder to use on one of my bolt guns as I feel it moves my face too far from the center line of the rifle. That's 1/4" material that goes all the way around the stock. Most of my risers only raise my cheek weld, not move it out.

I've just found that if I can't get into the prone position and mount my rifle, then opens my eyes and see perfectly through my scope I need to make adjustments.

I have one similar to the Eagle Industries one pictured above. Got if from s.a.wgunner at Get Some Tactical.

Once it is strapped on, it doesn't move. Except during cleaning when I have to take it off to get my one peice rod in untouched.

I keep my cheek off the stock other than a light rub on my whiskers to know I am there.....why put extra pressures on the stock that, if not duplicated exactly everytime, can cause poor accuracy. Unless one is using a sling and a handstop (ala Target Rifle), I see no reason to put another variable into your shooting that doesn't need to be there.

BR shooters make the teeniest groups in the world, the only thing they touch is the trigger and possibly the back of the trigger guard....coincidence?

Could always use some 100mph tape and chop up some foam, cheap non-destructive way to try it out. It worked for the US Military for a lot of years.

i have a 56mm falcon menace on my savage with high rings and had the same problem, i ordered the karsten cheek piece a few weeks ago. if you are not worried about drilling your stock i would go for it. having a nice cheek weld makes a huge difference for me, i can get my shots off a lot faster and feels much more stable too.

I used to have that blackhawk strap-on + 1,25'' (still have it...)

Now I got this kind of cheek-riser
a KMW long range solution comb riser

Both give me the height I needed, except I found the blackhawk, while not moving back and forth, did rotate around.
But now that cyanide points it out, maybe it's one of the reasons of my accuracy insuccess, I like to rest the gun with the cheek weld just under the bone. I'll make sure to check it out :)

lol yeah, and looks like complete s**t. Funny, it's fine for the military to do but as soon as a civi does it, they're a "bubba" :)

Excellent. Thanks for the feedback. As mentioned earlier in the post, did you find that the 1/4" plastic pushed your face off to the side at all? Does it feel good/natural?

That's a nice lookin stock. Yeah, the moving part is what I'm worried about. I know that if I bolt plastic to my stock it is never going to move. + I don't really mind drilling it. Not a big deal.

What's that puppy weigh with the KMW?

Man, I just called a plastic place to see if I could get some black UHMW. I have a jigsaw and a heat gun... bet I could just make one of those things.

well if you're in the mood... you know what they say...
That KMW is height adjustable aswell as left and right adjustable :)

I have no idea of the actual weight, the stock has the sniper fill, so it is definitely heavier than the previous BC stock. Good luck on your quest

cheek rest

I've been getting mine form Desert Warrior Products! I had put one on my
M1A and it help tons!!
I just ordered 2 more from them the other day, for myself and a buddy's Rem 700's!! Not sure what Kartsen charge's for his, but I've had really good service from DWP!!! And from all the site's that I regularly visit, this was the cheapest!!
They also have a metal knurl edge knob instead of a plastic one. Very durable!
just my 2 cents.

Yeah, I looked at that. They are charging the same as Kartsen, $50. I wonder if they offer industry rates?

How do you find them in terms of comfort? They feel good/natural? Do you feel like you have to lean or do awkward things in order to see down the scope?

i also got the desert warrior product on my m-14 clone, no leaning necessary, you can adjust the angle the way you like it

I made it pretty obvious (maxed it out actually) on this picture
