Chiappa 9mm M1 Carbine Review

Thanks to the OP and other contributors for this thread. I almost purchased one when they came available.. but something held me back (other than the latest bank statement)

I truly wish this was a little better of a product, the idea is so awesome.

FWIW, last time I was at the range another chap was kind enough to offer me the use of a .40 Beretta mag, and it ran fine for the 2 full loads that were put through. The promag that came with it started acting up instead. The modified Beretta mags I have worked fine aside from one round out of 40, and that was more my loading error (not working the action far enough back).

As someone else has mentioned, the quality/functionality seems to vary. I had troubles fitting the 9mm mags, yet others haven't. :confused:
 
If it helps the 40 mags I was using are factory Beretta mags and they only fed properly half of the time. When I compared them to the mag that came with the rifle the feed lips on the 40 mags looked to be just slightly longer and that would cause them not to let the round come free of the mag early enough. With the feed angle looking to be the main issue this would be enough to cause problems and I wasn't about to mess around with trimming factory mags. It seems to be a crap shoot as to what works with these rifles and everyone of them seems to be different. Mine does run fine with the original 9mm mag and proper ammo.
 
all my mag are mec-gar , 3 9mm mag and one .40 mag for the beretta 96 and they work fine , my .40 mag is pinned to tight so i can just put 10 round of 9mm ,

You would have to buy one and do some trial and error tuning. Beretta 92 doesn't have a tilting barrel lock up, so the mags are designed to feed straighter into the chamber. With Glock mags it may be OK as is.
 
I agree that trial and error testing is the way to go. The mag well is only pinned on and would be easy to change. There is a small plastic filler block in the mag well as the 30 carbine round is longer. I had thought about removing it as that would allow the mag to tilt but it may go too far forward and you would need to change how the mag locks into place.
 
Thats the one included with the rifle. Will know more when it arrives. Speaking up for the seller he stated I could nix the deal if I wasn't satisfied with the mag issue. No big deal other then to make sure this rifle will function more then 5 times in a row with out mag change. Also have lots of glock 17 mags from a prior purchase so hopefully this 3D printing idea works out.
 
The mag block is made from aluminum, not plastic.
Even with it out of the trigger group housing, a Glock 17 mag will not fit, so that is a no-go.

A redesigned mag block might work, but it would need a redesign of the mag release too.
