Cool review! Have you tried standing and doing some off-hand shooting instead of at the bench? I've never benched my Winchester/Miroku 1892 .44 mag but I shoot it off hand and from shooting 240 gr reloads and Sellier and Bellot 240 gr JSP (I guess standard stuff) the recoil isn't too shabby and my butt plate looks like this:
