Chiappa Alaskan

Well there she is.. Added to the collection.
First impressions are it's ok. Not sure what I was expecting, maybe bit more flash for an over $2k gun, but overall it's a nice little rifle. Basic box, instructions with a small nylon brush. And that is all. No trigger lock, not even the cheap platic throw away one. No advertising stickers that I usually don't care for either.

Half the screws that secure the stock were 1/4 out, all had to be tightened. The matt finish shows every finger print and every touch and nick. The takedown action is decent, 2 part process. The plastic furniture is just meh. Feel like for 2k+ these should be coming with carbon fiber stocks.
It's about as heavy as the Marlins.
Nothing down the pipe yet.

Definitely no Henry or a new Marlin.

I do really like the sights on it. Ghost ring in the rear and red fiber in the front. Nice crisp and clear sight picture. I prefer these 100 times over the overpriced skinner ones, and I have both. Much easier to see with these.

Seems pretty basic overall. Not sure what parts apparently break down or need fixing, per all the Chiappa haters. Mind you that opinion might change down the road if/once something breaks down haha. Can't comment on accuracy yet. Wish the sights were further apart for more accuracy.

New here in southwestern Ontario...

Been looking at the Chiappa 357 Alaskan, but seems very hard to come by. I've seen the 44 is available, but not sure if this one would be right for me. I'm new to all of this, but wanted something in a take down, that isn't too hard on the wallet - especially for just plinking at the range, I already have a Henry's 22. Might want to try my hand at hunting at some point, but thinking 30.06 for that.

I've seen awesome reviews of the Chiappa and I really dig the lever action rifles. Any input would be appreciated. Do I wait for a 357, or pull-the-trigger (pun intended) on a 44???

Thanks!
Well, decided on the Henry’s Big Boy X model from Bullseyenorth . Couldn’t pass on the good price and helpful information.

I had looked at a Rossi R25 (at another dealer), but was disappointed to see the wiggle on the forestock right out of the box. That dealer tried to tighten, but couldn’t.

Still interested in the Alaskan…. maybe next one. 🤷‍♂️

Henry's are nice and light and sleek and cycle smooth, you won't regret it. Good choice.

What caliber did you end up with?

Ive run both the Chiappa and the Henry. To get the comparable 12" barrel in Henry you need to get the mare's leg, and then try and find a standard butt stock for it. They are around and can be found, but difficult for sure.

The Henry, hands down more refined, and just smoother to run. Fit and finish is way better on the Henry, but I just can't get over the "brass" look on them. The removable tube feed to empty it without cycling is also a nice feature that Chiappa does not have. Seemed like a heavier barrel as well. Just the whole loading, running the leaver and unloading are better with the Henry.

The Chiappa never let me down, even though it was not as smooth or refined. I much more enjoyed the black, satin look of it. The loading gate sucks compared to the Henry.

Neither one is cheap for what you really get, but if Henry would offer the mares leg in something other than brass that would be the way to go for me. I ran the 44 mag.

Looks great and I’m sure you’re gonna enjoy it, probably my favorite of my levers is my 13” Chiappa NSR in .44 mag, has seen a lot of use and never any issues. Been a great compact rifle.
