China Made M4 Carbine

daedra83,
If you mean Chinese by `comunist scrap` then you will be surprised by all the things that are made there. Take a look around your house, car, work... it`s everywhere.

Everybody uses video games in one way or another to train their people nowadays, even the CF and the U.S. Military uses it to some extent, just look at www dot americasarmy dot com. It's a great way to "condition" people to pull the trigger, to paraphrase Greentips, as well as to teach tactics, teamwork, and the like. As far as the "communist crap" comments, well, if they are made out of "patriotism" or in a way meaning that China somehow poses a "threat" to us, I can respect that.

That being said, 1: I don't know of a single, credible sourse currently claiming that they have any significant expantionist ambitions (unless you call taiwan a sovereign nation, and not a Chinese province, and last I checked Taiwan had still not delcared it's independence from China) 2: They are one of 3 nations capable of launching a man in space and bringing him back alive. 3: They are the ONLY nation that currently puts any serious consideration in a manned moon mission. 4: They currently produce and market, under license from Moscow, just about every "Russian" aircraft in current production, since the Russians are too broke to do it themselves, so yeah, they DO have the capability to produce high quality firearms, just not any incentive to do it at this time. 5: Their economy is growing at an incredible rate (last I checked about 9.5% a year, which is unthinkable for any western nation), despite a VERY large chunk of their GDP going into military or "strategic" spending, having about 2 Billion people to house and feed AND having no significant primary sector (natural ressources) economy to speak of (Just look into who controls/owns the majority of Canada's lumber, or where all but a tiny fraction of the world's high quality metal alloys are going).

I could go on and on about this but the bottom line is at this rate you'll have a hard time finding a quality product of any kind that will not be Chinese made or assembled from parts made in China in about a decade, probably less.

BUT there just isn't any incentive for Canadian dealers to bring in those "higher grade" firearms at this time, since the people that buy Chinese firearms are primarily looking at cost, while the people who <would> fork out the extra dough for "high quality" firearms, are also the folks that won't buy anything that doesn't says Tikka, or Sako, or Remington, or Beretta, or Benelli, or Glock, or Colt, or Sig, or Leopold etc... anyway (My guess is a lot of the latter are already buying products that are fabricated and assembled in China, and just don't know it).

Edited to comply with hot-linking rules.

I don't care who makes them. It, by its nature, pisses off Libs. That's a bonus.

That's a valid point.
However, if everyone continues buying Chicom crap prepare to have a Schitty Shrimp (chuckles) restaurant in every city in the world by 2070.

Who cares where it comes from, some people find it hard to come up with $1500 + for a Brand name AR. I say if they come in, who cares who buys them, its just more AR15's in the country. More people means a bigger influence.

For those of you who've had a look at these things: (a) are the parts interchangeable with Colt's and (b) are the barrels chrome-lined?

Small hole uppers/lowers, so they swap with domestic AR's.

Barrels are government profile, 14 1/2", 1 in 9 and chrome lined.

Lowers marked "Minden", so probably the same lowers as the M311. Colt bolts, carriers, ect, should fit as with M311.

There "may" be some issues with the fitting of domestic AR flash hiders and furniture due to threading, as with the M311, but this is not confirmed. The Chinese directly copied a domestic M4 style AR, so it may not be the case

So the solution would be a cheap canadian-made AR15 ;-)

I am surprised a lot, that with the abundant engineers and qualified workers, Canada in not both feet in gun making, like Belgium or Spain 100 years ago. We've got steel, alloys, tool&die makers all over the place and still 1 1/2 rifle made in the country over the century.

And Liberal governments for most of the time, beholden to an internationalist agenda of civil disarmament.

Small market, too much regulation and legislation directed at lawfull ownership and use, and not too much profit to be made by Canadians making and selling guns to Canadians.

Diemaco was selling the C7A1 to the CF for about 850 $, IIRC. (don't know the price tag of a C7A2...)
They were certainly making a small profit with this price.

I know gov. and civilian markets are very different, but are we really a too small market for them to make a semi-auto version of their super-high grade rifles & carbines ?

Also, i'm sure there would be an interest for Diemaco (Colt Canada), from americans and international buyers, given the reputation of their products.
