Chinese 7.62x39 surplus ammo recall

It was API, there was a post on Facebook that was up for a day, Clear Chinese API ammo. I did get a picture of the can they came in but didn't snap one of the rounds themselves. I may or may not have offered a trade for some tracers. Then the post disappeared.

With 7.62x39 I imagine the AP part is pretty weak, but the I would make it interesting.

There used to be lots of 7.62x54R API around. It had pretty good performance, allegedly.

anyone local should rush to see if they missed any tracer and if it is the incindary then return it.

I heard that the silver boxed Norinco were pretty decent performing AP...not sure if that was just an urban legend of sorts.
Those were sold some 15 years ago maybe?

It's not.

While the majority of Chinese and other surplus 7.62x39 has a steel core, it's mild steel. Steel jacketed, steel cored surplus leave less of a mark on an AR500 plate than 55 gr. lead core .223 at the same distance.

I got a call regarding the recall as I'd made a purchase recently. They told me the rounds were overcharged. Either way the case I got isn't stamped with a 1 so I'm fine. Haven't even opened the case yet. Might have to just to see, lol.

how so, fresh imports are not allowed

New tracers show up often. Obviously through technically illegal channels but since tracers themselves are not prohib no one seems to care. There is nothing stopping NRCAN from approving more legal imports, rumor is they choose not to do so over forest fire concerns.

I just saw the recall was updated and has more pictures now. Apparently prohibited ammo, I wonder if there’ll be a ban on ammo imports now in the name of safety. I’m glad that Score shotgun ammo is made just a couple hours away from here lol, not sure if Canada has other manufacturers of centerfire/rimefire though?
