^the bakelite upper hand guard handles the barrel heat better than wood, keeps a better zero and doesn't smoke as much. The French tickler is superior

Is it all wood ? , or is the upper handguard plastic ?

Those guns are just embarrassing to look at.

The Type 56s with the plastic (bakelite) upper handguard were first mass produced in 1978 (French Tickler). The one pictured above was produced in 1964 in the famous factory #26 and has a wooden handguard. Looks to me like slightly refurbished but all in all is an old military beater. I had several regular military issued Type 56s from the 1970s and none was a really good shooter. Eventually, sold all of them. Over a year ago I bought the unissued Type 56 with a bakelite handguard (French Tickler) with an immaculate bore. This one shoots like a dream. From my personal experience, I'll never buy again any Type 56 which was issued to the Chinese military. But that's me.

The plastic aka fibre reinforced plastic aka bakelite aka french tickler handguards are only on the Factory 26 1978, 1979, 1980 Type 56 production. And factory 26 M21 SKS. (Triangle 26 on Youtube has a video on the french tickler where he says he has seen original production records that indicate they were still being made in 1981, which would be a 26 million serial #, though he has never seen one)

Is there such a thing as an accurate SKS rifle?

Or are they all minute of sheet of plywood? LOL
Shooting tracers out of my russian I can't miss. If you can't hit anything try that. They lite up after 100yards so shoot distance and only when there is snow on the ground or heavy rain (forest fire)

Out of my SKS' I can easily hit 8" steel out at 200 yards off the bench. I've put that same steel at 400 yards and was dancing all around it. I can't say whether it is the rifle, or the 50 year old surplus ammo. The other option is "accuracy through volume of fire"

Stores and distributors should list conditions according to NRA grading standards, not meaningless good for age, excellent for year etc
