Chinese Type 81, heard they are coming to Canada

If the CZ receivers were modified why wouldn't someone start importing purpose built semis again? Seems like this entire family of rifles is now gutted.

What "family" of rifles? Just because they have external features that look the same doesn't mean they are of the same design lineage. The ca line isn't banned, two shipments got denied over features that were of either full auto, or converted auto concerns. That is the only reason under the law the shipments could be denied, as far as specs are concerned.

What do you mean by "under the law"?
Police don't need to follow any laws.

Some guy at CBSA or RCMP decided that the CZ-858 looks like an AK-47. Shipment denied. End of story.

More of the same that I posted in another Type 81 thread...

Everyone keeps posting up videos of the carbine version of the Type 81. That one has the 17.32 inch barrel that would have to be worked around for the Canadian market, with a new 18.5 barrel installed.

Here are pics of the Type 81 "LMG" variant. In semi auto, and as it stands dimensionally it would be non-restricted right away with its 20.47 inch barrel. And looks slightly different with the longer sight radius, stock, etc etc. I'm personally hoping for this, more than the carbine, but would take either..... or maybe both.... haha.

Care to share with us where exactly you found this "fact"?

The only way the CBSA could have banned those imports were on the basis that they believed they were full auto, or converted autos.

There have been no official remarks on why from either side.

my dream was a tantal and a type 81 lmg. now i might be lucky to get some straight pull pice of garbage and a type 81 lmg...actually ill take just the type 81 now. we already got screwed when the tantal door closed hopefully the type 81 door is about to open

The tantal door was never open, that was a bunch of hype driven by hopeful members of this forum at the thought of a new gun. A thought that ended up being way off.

There is still a chance of a semi auto schmit Ruben based ak loo alike. Just gonna take a while.

I want an ak, and for a while I was tempted at finding a dewat. I'd rather have an spbar than a dewat. At least it shoots.

Yeah dewats disgust me and hurt my soul.

There has been no official remarks from CBSA, because they don't need to bother with any.

They turned the rifles away, simply because they felt like it.
They aren't required to prove that these rifles are AK-variants or full-autos.

They just deny the shipment, and go for coffee-break.

That wouldn't surprise me at all with the idiots our government employs. No accountability for anything. Just look at the clowns that make up our gun laws. Most of them probably haven't ever been to a range or held a gun

Wolverine supplies has a couple of cz 858-4v in stock for sale. Why isn't anybody buying them and they have been available for so long now.

it hasn't been confirmed which version of this gun we would get so who knows. the old ones don't (i think) and the newer versions take ak mags

The Type 81 mags are unique in that they have a bolt hold open mechanism. AK mags will fit in the original Type 81s, but they will not activate the bolt hold open. That is the "don't work" issue.

Semi autos did make it into the US years ago before the US import ban apparently. But not many.

There are already 3 FRT numbers for the Type 81 line. All three show as prohibs, 2 of which are F/A and one is for a C/A.

The crappy thing is that the FRT entries all show the Type 81 make as "Kalashnikov". If the importer taking a run at these is successful, it will be based on a strong arguement as to why it isn't a Kalashnikov.

The good news is that no where in those listings do they cite the Type 81 being an AK variant, and the reason for prohib is the F/A or C/A nature of the gun itself.

Semi auto AKs list a different section of the firearms act, specifically the order in council, stating why the AK is prohib.

So as far as things show right now, not listed as an AK variant on the FRT listings currently.
