I have a chipped gun stock that I'm trying to repair. I have good glues onhand and wondering which one I should use.

I have the gorilla original glue, two-part epoxy and PL 8x construction adhesive.

I'm leaning towards the epoxy or PL. What do you recommend? I want this repair to last a really really long time.

Two part epoxy brushed thin on both parts and clamped together, slow cure and make sure you do not have excess on edges

The Gorilla glue does that weird expansion thing, so you should NOT use that. It’s great for non-cosmetic repairs that you need strength but don’t care how it looks.

Definitely not a job for epoxy in my opinion. Yellow wood glue (PVA) is well suited to a job like this. Approximately 3,000 PSI strength exceeds that of surrounding wood, thin film will not needlessly keep the parts separated and it does not creep, which can be a problem with epoxy.

I have had good luck with the gorilla glue in the pic but extra precautions have to be made as the squeeze out is going to expand. Just be sure to clean it up and check it a few times while it drys.

Good old fashion wood glue for me. I would not use epoxy or gorilla glue on it. Wood glue is surprisingly strong and sometimes stronger than the wood itself. Lee Valley carries a brown tinted wood glue that would help mask the glue line. Nice thing about wood glue is that cleanup of the squeeze-out is easy with a damp sponge. Not so much with epoxy and gorilla glue without potentially damaging the surrounding finish.

In the Business hide glue is king. It's powder, mix with water to a paste consistency let it set briefly, brush on moist surfaces, wipe access with moist cloth, clamp and fogitabotit for a week. If you carefully wax ( paste/floor) the shiny side first cleanup is easy.

The only time epoxy or any glue creeps is if too much is used and if the epoxy did creep you take a cloth dampened with brake clean and it is gone, if you do job properly you would refinish stock if done right the crack edges will disappear into grain.

And oh yes using an aviation epoxy you will have a 40,000 lbs per square in strenght

PL construction glue is for houses and stones, way to thick for something like this , what is with all the cuts?, that will not help the case, just less surface for the glue to hold on to
a good fit is important, than good wood glue , or epoxy, but I have never had a problem with wood glues, and you don't have to worry about a bit of water on the stock, if you do , there are out door ones

The only repair to this that will last a long time is a new stock. No matter what glue you use, this piece is going to receive recoil and will crack and loosen ... but that just my opinion based on some real world observation and experience. Good Luck with that.
