So I recently installed a PWS Triad on my AR and I noticed a chip that's been taken out of the flash hider. Unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to find the missing piece. :D

My question is -- Is this normal? Something I should be worried about? Should I be phoning questar/pws?

I had the EXACT same thing happen to me. I contacted Questar and they talked to PWS... according to PWS it's a normal thing that happens if that part is machined a little too far down. Does not affect function and questar will most likely not exchange it.

Typical quester service

I have the exact same chip on mine. Instead of bothering Questar I e-mailed PWS directly and asked them about it. They told me that the chip would not hinder the performance of the Triad flash suppressor in any way. I have been testing the Triad and have yet to see anything that would prove them wrong. I have over four thousand rounds down the pipe on the MK112 and Triad so far.

I actually doubt it would have anything close to a noticable impact on accuracy, but that strikes me as a poorly designed product if it chips after such a few number of of shots. There must be a lack of support around there inside the hider. I would not buy one myself after the multiple complaints of this happening.

Just saying.

Don't get me wrong -- I'm not going to bother complaining about it but I'm sure as #### not going to buy another one.

I just bought one as well but haven't installed it yet. I'm guessing this will most likely happen to mine as well. Kind of disappointing to hear. As long as the performance doesn't change I guess it is tolerable.

I just inspected mine and you can see the difference in that area to the left of the PWS symbol where the chip is happening. It is very thin and sharp compared to the opposite areas. This is due to the fact that each cut in the muzzle brake gets closer and closer to muzzle of the barrel. The cut in that area is the closest one to the muzzle of the barrel and at that point their just isn't enough support.

Ah crap. I just installed one on my AR and have been looking forward to trying it out. Now this is all I will be thinking about. If it affects performance or not, PWS shouldn't be making a part with a known design flaw and then passing it off to the customer with a "Don't worry about it" statement.

While I am relatively new to shooting, I am told that damaging the crown, or even just using a bore snake that may or may not wear the crown down unevenly will effect accuracy. If so I can't see how that chip does not impact the shot?

Does not affect function...

...the chip would not hinder the performance of the Triad flash suppressor...

You have to read these replies like a lawyers document. Of course it still "suppresses the flash" after chipping... Do you have any better pics of the chip (area "1" in the pic)?

The chip appears to be in the middle of a seemingly "simple" radius, if the section where it chipped (1) looks like the section we can see (2).

I wouldn't buy one of those from any retailer. Imagine, bullets taking chunks of metal out of your muzzle device is totally acceptable... Not.

i would be curious what the response would be directly from PWS

update:i called PWS and talked to Stacy, he said its purely cosmetic and will not hinder function or accuracy in any way...

Did he give any indication that they're changing the design or manufacturing process so it won't happen with future production runs?
