Thanks for you opinions

Depends on what you wana do with it a Norinco can be a good make for a few hundred rounds a year at paper.
I consider the AR a life saving tool so I run Daniel Defense and Spikes tactical.

And you have a million choices these days get out your google fu

Last I checked, there were few life threatening characteristics of paper targets ....

OP, how much are you willing to spend ? I can only speak from personal experience, but here are the ones I own based on my hours of research.

Norinco cqa 14.5" $699
- - Best bang for the buck IMO. I have thousand of rounds down range with no issues. Don't expect a glamorous AR, as this Chinese built firearm certainly lacks the "###y" factor of most US built AR's .

Daniel Defense MK18 & M4v1 ~ $1,800
- - I am a DD fan boy, so slightly biased - but this will certainly IMO be your best bang for buck "quality" AR

I would also suggest looking into Armalite, Colt and Noveski if you have the budget to accommodate such beauties.

Of course there are countless other options available but I will only speak of my personal choices.

Here is a good place to start your research... I spent months researching before buying my first AR :) - get comfy !!http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?69-Black-and-Green-Rifles

Having just entered the AR market I would highly recommend the Windham Weaponry SRC; of all the AR's I handled and tested it has the best fit and finish for the price.

If your budget can support a boutique AR, I would hands down go with a Noveske, Daniel Defense, or Colt.

If it's your first gun, get something cheap, in new used condition. Play with it, learn the tricks and foibles. When you're ready, sell it for a bit less than you bought it for and buy something fancy. Or, keep it and run it into the dirt.

What's your budget? That'll help us guide you in a given direction.

^^ This.

The range in price for this platform is HUGE, tell us how much you are willing to spend on the rifle (don't forget about added costs of ammo and any extras you may want).

Setting this range will pretty much narrow your decision down to a few manufacturers.

Exactly..you need to set a budget....some people said buy cheap & run it into the ground. I'm a buy once cry once type a guy so you have to decide what you want to spend
