choose binoculars for me...

I splurged & got a pair of Swaro 10X42EL They are obviously a great optic, where Leica & Zeiss are equally a great optic as well, they are one of the most expensive bino's you will find for hunting but you will not regret any of these brands and will have them forever! But for 200$ I really dont know my cheapest set were 400$ & they are the Bushnell legens in Camo!

whatever you get, get it in 8x40 - that's what i've been using for over 38 years - good at dusk, dawn, good fov, and just a tad heavier than 7x35s with out going to the weight of 50mm glass- sure , i've got a pair of 10x 20 for really looking,(they're bushnell compacts) but my all-around glass is a carl wetzlar(sears off brand is shultz) - as far as bushell being crap goes, i'd argue that point- or at least were- i used to work at wild and i saw as good a glass come out of japan as a ny of our swiss-german stuff, and we made survey instruments and theodlites

Do yourself a favor, save some money and buy a good quality glass. This seasons a write off, but you'll have them for next year and right up till you die. I bought a pair of Bushnell Elite's and I can say it's a pleasure to look through them for hours at a time. Look for somthing in that price range as a start and you'll have somthing you'll be proud of. The biggest mistake most guys make is they figure if their shelling out big cash they want big power. Don't go any stronger then 8X. You;ll have a brighter optic and you'll hold it more steady. More power won't do anything for you if you can't see ####.

I just spent 300 bucks on Pentax 8 X 40 binos.

Although I wish for more available funds for really nice glass (Leica or Swaro) I find this brand acceptable for my needs, up here in the boreal forest. :yingyang:

I purchased these because my Tasco (icky name!!) EXP series, (older Japanese made NOT Chinese) 10 X 42s were lost in my last move.
IF one can find these EXP series of the old type, confirm it's made in Japan by turning them over and looking underneath to see where they are made.
If made in China or South Korea using Tasco EXP name presently,(crappity crap crap crap) but the Japanese Tasco EXP series, were damn good quality for the asking price of my 10 X 42s. (top price about 400 bucks, about 5 years ago)
I would put them in the same level of quality, as the BSA Monarchs, of the same power range.

small and half the weight of most binos ive looked at. anyone tried them out?

I looked at these last weekend, as I was interested in picking them up. Not very good at all. I was VERY impressed with the Minox line.

WWS in Winnipeg has some Vortex models. I was actually pretty impressed with the prices, although the are quite bulky. They have a decent monocular at 8 or 10X for $59 and $79.

I just got my Vortex Crossfire 8X32's in from Cameraland. Reading license plates out to about 600 yards was a breeze. Not a bad set of bino's for 99$ US...

Speaking of cameraland my wife just ordered me a pair of Minox HG's for my birthday. They cost half as much compared to the prices inside the Cabelas. Our dollar is kicking but right now may as well take advantage of it now.

Have to agree with Brotherjack.Just picked up a pair of Vortex 8x40 at WSS for 180.00 They work great, easy to focus, clear, good at low light.

Although I lust after a pair of Leupold GR switch power binos, the next ones I will likely try (to replace a pair I wrecked) are the Bushnell Legend HD in 8X42.

well i picked up a set of vortex crossfire 10x42. easily the best bino's i have looked through (not really saying much) and i am very happy with them. the warranty is nice too.

scored a free pair of audobon 7x18 pocket bino priced at $44.99 as well. :D
