choose one deer rifle

270 with 150 gr. bullets for deer hunting.

Wouldn't hesitate to use it on black bear, elk or moose either if I have a tag.

But the same goes for when I use my 300 WM moose hunting, I use it on deer and bear too if I see one I want.

Husqvarna 1900 7mm Rem. Mag loaded to 7x57 balistics. Love the rifle hate the cartridge.

Plan B would be a Ruger No1-A in 7x57, topped with a Leupold FX-II fixed 4x33. 154 grain Interlocks @ 2500 fps, zero'd for 175 yards. Nice gun....someday ;)
I like the way you think, but I want the same cal in the RSI model

My answer though would be a.......

Good question, I'll get back to you on this one...

M77.30-06 Ruger. Do it all rifle for any game in North America...shy of Kodiak/Alaskan Brown bear.

Why shy of kodiak/alaskan brown bear?

If a 30-06 can take a grizz down then why not a kodiak?

Onr Firearm Choice Or A Cross Section

As I stated earlier I would take my Remington 700 BDL in 7mm08 as my single choice.

If I could pick a cross section of guns with common ammo, it would be the following.
  1. Sako AI Laminated Stock with light barrel 223 which can be used in NB
  • Sako AII 308 or Steyr SSG 69 PII 308
  • Sako Mannlicher AIII 270 or Springfield 03 A3 30-06
  • Remington 870 12 gage combo with 20" slug & 28" barrels

You have to have choices, commercial firearms that have not been designed for high round counts, or military bolt actions which are tough as nails and the ammo is common as rocks. I have included a larger group of big bores with lots of choices.

Just my two cents.

The rifle I have chosen for my all around deer rifle (at the moment) is a Ruger7X57RSI with a NECG peep.
Before somebody says the little 20" barrel is no good at long range, there are several members of this board that have watched me shoot clays at 200 meters regularly with the same rifle.
It's small, light, and the cool factor is right at the top of the scale!:dancingbanana: .
I'm into single shot falling blocks, and I like this one .

If I had to be nailed down to one chambering, and 250 yards was the longest shot out there, I would take my M700 Classic in 6.5x55 with 125 partitions or 130 TSX. If shots went on out to 400+, then the 270 would be my choice, with 130 Partitions or 130 TSX. For deer hunting in your criteria, I have at least 7 others that qualify, such as 6mm Remington, 257R, 260AI, 6.5x55AI, 7x57, 300 Savage, 30-06 Sprg. A lot of deer have fallen to my 6.5x55, 270, and 7x57 over the years. Regards, Eagleye.

I'd rather be armed with a .338 Win Mag 250-275 grainers for a bear sometimes reaching the size of an eastern moose!

my favorite set up for an all around deer rifle is my rem model 7 manlicher in 7mm08 with a straight 4 power, no messing around , i know where it shoots, aim and pull the trigger

250 sav AI with a Speer 100 gr grand slam. From coyotes to cow elk, point of aim to 300 yds or my 7-08

Hypothetically ... NO, can't do it, don't want to do it, won't do it.

I take at least 3 rifles to camp ... and use all of them, depending on where
I'm hunting. The 45-70 in the thick stuff, the 35 Whelen (loaded down to about 35 Rem. with Speer 220 Flat Points) up in the hardwood ridges, and the 25-06 in the whack shack or out in the open fields.

Do think a Model 7 in 260 with a Vari XII 1-4 or 2-7 (or both) might make a pretty handy outfit though. I'd keep it in Leupold QR mounts cause I like 'em.
