My girlfriend and I are shopping around for a pistol calibre carbine. Because this particular brand of toy is so pricey, we'd like to have as much info as possible before buying something.
She really likes the 9mm AR-15. Here are some pictures of her shooting the RRA pistol that belongs to a certain Range Officer which all PoCo members will be well familiar with.
Some of the features we want:
- readily available parts and accessories (vertical foregrip, light, replacement parts, etc.);
- BUIS and optics at the same time;
- prefer 9mm;
- prefer the possibility of 10 round mags.
Here's the way I see our choices right now:
1. RRA 7" A4 with quad rail - this seems to be our front runner right now. I'm just wondering about the 7" barrell. Is the 10.5 better? Can get decent hits at 50m with a 7 inch barrel? 100m? The other downside is that it is pretty pricey, and that's without all the add-ons.
2. Beretta Cx4 Storm 9mm - mags are readily available. What about the foregrip, etc. I don't want to beg in the EE for months. Mags are plentiful and are all 10 round. Some people have mentioned to me that action used in these guns is more susceptible to break-down (than an AR). True? On the upside, it's half the cost of the rest of them.
3. HK USC .45ACP - I love HK stuff. If they made a black USC in 9mm that would probably be my choice. I know the gray ones are discontinued and they are coming out with black now. If I bought one it'd probably be a huge money sinkhole UMP conversion for me. Are these things durable? Especially if you take it apart and start putting an aftermarket lower and stock on it? Have have USC owners found it hard getting parts, accessories, mags? Then there is the 5 round mags, and when the competition has 10 round mags, that is just about a deal breaker on its own.
4. B&T TP-9 - A few people at our range have these and bring them out regularly. My girlfriend is not a fan of the look of it. I like the look of it, but it seems more like a big handgun than the pistol calibre carbine that I am after.... and then there is the 5 round mag thing.
5. Bushmaster Carbon 15 9mm pistol - Are these things any good? The first time I saw a Carbon 15 receiver up close I pretty much lost all interest in them. It looks like a fake molded prop AR15. At least you can get 10 round mags for them. The price is not much less than a "real" AR though. I guess it is lighter for small people like my gf to hold up though.
Any advice or other suggestions people might have is much appreciated.
