Choosing my First O/U - Beretta 686 Essential vs. Browning Belgium Superposed

Modified and full barrels work great for trap shooting, including singles, handicap and doubles. This combination is too tight for most sporting clays presentations although it may be fine for a few courses.

I shoot a lot of sporting clays 80's to 90's % range some of the time. all I have is fixed choke full over mod, works fine for me. One less thing to think about when shooting. i see guys changing chokes every station.

Your #### will not drop off if you don't have interchangeable chokes. Unless you're trying to become a champion target sports shooter you'll be fine with a gun that fits you reasonably well and is of high quality. I'm a fan of the Superposed so I would be more inclined to go with that.

After spending hours at several gun shops and handling dozens of different O/U, I decided to go with the Beretta 686 Silver Pigeon I, 12-28.
As much as I would have loved to own an historic work of art such as the Superposed, I figured that for my first O/U, I would benefit from the flexibility of parts availability, warranty, and yes choke interchangeability is a big plus. But most importantly, the Silver Pigeon just fits me better, points and swings better than the Superposed does.
Thank you all for sharing your wealth of information. You have helped me tremendously and I really appreciate it.

Terrific shotgun! It’ll serve you well for years to come.

Congrats.

Nothing wrong with your choice and by this I mean you went out and found a live on to hold onto and to get the feel for it.
You educated yourself with some direction and pointers from lots of experienced shooters here on CGN and not just opinions.
The Superposed has a certain flavor to which it and requires some education and the willingness to contend with the vintage shotgun.
H3LL, you may even search for just the right Superposed for another day and time in the future.
Nothing wrong with that either.
Get out and smoke some clays and post a Bragging picture when you find the time.
PULL !!!
Rob.

Why not keep an eye out for a Browning on the EE, treat yourself when you see a nice one. My Beretta 686 was my first shotgun and is used mainly for clays, but the Browning is the upland gun. They compliment each other nicely.

Candocad.
