City-ots!

people driving roads bird hunting start seeing moose or deer and find out that it its all crown land think they have the right to start hunting there i beg to differ ....... all you people who jump around to wherever the game numbers are high and set up camp not knowing or caring if anybody else hunts there can go screw yourselves.!!!

Speaking of the title of the OP..... *Newsflash*: THEY DO!!!

They have every right to hunt there whenever they feel like it.

Hey buddy, let me be as clear as I can. I WILL hunt whatever crown land I like. I do not care in the least what your feelings are about it, it's NOT YOURS.

If you don't like it? Too f**kin bad....lifes rough, get a helmet.

What are you gonna do when you get to "your" spot and I'm allready there?
I'll tell ya: Not a god damn thing.

Stay in the city boy, your type isn't welcome up North.

Please do not group all southern folks into one bunch. I am from the city, but will relocate if I come across a fellow hunter. 99% of the time they will even suggest another area to try. As for us southern folk dirtying your northern land, I can't see to many guys hauling scrap shingles hours on end to dump them up north, Where did they come from?

wow guys i state some safety concerns and my opinion of somebody who ignores safety and im the bad guy who should lock up my wife quit hunting and move on !! for the record i never blocked a road in my life . nor did i attack any one here on a personal level and i will not stoop to that.. hope you all enjoy your season as much as i will

Let's be honest here, your safety concern argument, is complete bull####. It's really just your excuse for why you and your family have claimed this public land as yours. And listening to you it seems quite clear, your family has claimed it.

Why people have targeted you is because this whole thread is about people like you, and the things they do. And you have had the gall to give your stupid reasons why you think you are the exception. Very clearly, don't get it.

You have claimed at least $500 000 of land as yours and haven't spent a penny.

There are lots of people who think they are entitled to a lifetime of EI or welfare, and I would liken your attitude of entitlement to them.

yes guys the whole story is B S . did it to prove a point . all i did is mention that i was hunting an area and stay away which happens every year to many people across ontario.. and look at the reactions it causes !! the fact is crown land is dwindling and the number of hunters is rising its going to be a problem for some time . thank god i hunt my own property and dont have to deal with this problem!! good luck to all this season i hope everybody finds somewhere to hunt.. !!

Here in BC, the same situation often rears it's head.
However, we have learned to share the land.
Obviously, blocking a road to huntable crown land is an absolute no-no.
It is available to any who want to hunt there.
I often meet other hunters on land I have hunted for many years.
Just engage them in courteous conversation and carry on.
The hunters that have hunted an area for some time have an advantage over those who just "pop" in anyway.
I don't believe my success depends on other "hunters", slobs or otherwise
Regards, Eagleye

I am going to keep this brief because the longer I think about it the crosser I get.

Short version - we went out for moose in an area we had been scouting for over a month.

First area - some donkey had parked a 32'-0 trailer 100'-0 from the best moose sign we had seen anywhere. He was too close to the spot and had no chance of getting anything in a rich area.

Second area - we get greeted by the sight of 2 half tons parked side by side blocking the effing road with maybe 3-4 kms of road to go with crown land on all sides.

Third area - Another donkey blocking another road. This time with a horse box and a half ton. "Are you locals?...Yep...Well we got two guys down there tracking a cow and calf." No response from us other than wondering if he had brought his own moose with him in the horse box and we just buggered off back to camp and blasted birdies for the weekend. This donkey was blocking maybe 20km more road with crown land on all sides.

We used to give the American hunters crap for treating the Northern Ontario bush like their own personal back yard, but the guys that still come up are on the whole great guys. These utter utter a**holes from Southern Ontario (Yes ussin bumpkins can read the stickers on your trucks and horse box and ussin bumpkins can read a map) block the damn public road leading to crown land off and then chuck their garbage all over the place. Clean up after yourself and if you know how a book operates then read up about access to crown land and interfering with another persons hunt.

What.would.you.have.done?

We call them mainlanders down here ;)

Could someone define "city-ot" for us?

I am quite sure that many hunters that live in the city are responsible capable human beings but maybe I am wrong.

Or is there a special designation you get once you have a street address and not an RR No.

Hard to tell. I am sure if you ask the OP he could shed some light. Anyway, according to his post, the city-ot is some sort of donkey that lives in the city of Southern Ontario :D
To make it even more confusing, there is the post that defines the crown land in terms many of us didn't know.
Anyway, I have no answer to your question, but reading some of the posts, I can explain what a semiliterate, ignorant redneck is.

I'm wondering if they were blocking roads due to getting fed up with local road hunters? Just a thought. ;)
I always liked the limited access areas in BC. Horse, walk or bike..... no motorized vehicles.

As far as littering, I don't think that's a city folk thing. I know many locals who are complete slobs. For some reason they figure since they live in that area, all wildlife and land is theirs........go figure.

Hunted crown land in Alberta my whole life. The best way we found was to get up extra early and be on top of a ridge and let the late sleepers drive the game to us. Worked almost everytime.

yeah sure you did.....Laugh2

I was trying to get to a cutblock before first light the other morning; a road hunter had the road blocked and when I came up behind him he started rolling along at 5km/h. He wouldn't let me pass and waved both his arms in the air like "what do you want here?"

I trundled along behind him until he turned off on a spur road. I saw him later, still rolling along at 5km/h. They were really serious dudes all decked out in camo.

You're right, I'm about to head to work right now and rush hour downtown is going to be nothing but 30' horse trailers, how could I forget My point was "how did you conclude that they were from the city"?

Tags on the back, stuff lying in the truck windows...erm...and speaking to the last guy with the horse trailer for a few minutes as I mentioned before.

Not specifically, but closest is a city based idiots. Not saying that cities have the monopoly on idiots, just that these were the more urban, less rural based sub-class.

Last year, we had some guys post "no tresspassing" signs in the area we usually hunt...we found the signs at about 6am, so we backed out, verified we were where we thought we were, and waited until 9am. Drove into town, went to the township and checked their maps...wouldnt ya know it, it isnt private property, its still crown land. So we head back out, its now after 10am so we figure we would try and find a spot for the afternoon/evening hunt. As we walk in the trail, maybe 1km in, we run into some other hunters. They were not happy to see us. They were ranting and raving about us tresspassing on private property. I told him to call the cops if he wants...I then showed him the crown land map that I was carrying, and showed him where we were on the map...it was only then did he back down and admit it is crown land. Some people cant even share stuff that isnt theirs...sad really.

That is ballsy! Good for you for confronting him on it though, most guys would have believed him and left the area.

The thing is, the type that do this don't care if they are in the right or not. An outfitter here did this all the time and told people they had no right on his leased land. Everyone knew he was wrong and lying, but the truth is: a lot of guys won't go back because they don't want the confrontation.

I think these guys depend on that as much as anything. Truth is, it works too.
