cleaning cosmoline off m305?

I used varsol/low odor paint thinner and a paint tray. Just took it pieces and bathed/dipped everything in the thinner, when i took it out i wiped it all down, blasted it with compressed air and gave it all several coats of oil (except the inside of the gas cylinder.)

Works like a charm.
 
whatever you do, wear gloves.

remember, these are the people who put malamine in baby food to dupe the protein test.

god knows what is in the packing oil at a chinese small arms factory?

Awesome! My thoughts exactly. Fill the bore with cement first, to keep it dry, and rub the wood with peanut butter to keep it oily.



Ok, real life. Disassemble, use brake cleaner or solvent with rags or paper towel for the steel, oil afterwards. (grease bolt bearings) A hair dryer and rags will bring most of the goo out of the stock without ruining it.
 
Gasoline. Let it sit for a couple hours, then while still in the gas bath, brush it down with an old paint brush.

In my experience it does, but it has to be hot. I've tried the break cleaner, varsol and other products. They were slow, messy and odourous and not very effective. The hot water washed the stuff out instantly with no smell or mess.
 
How is cosmoline not smelly and water not messy. I always have that issue where you're washing your hands in the restroom and the faucet splashes water all over your crotch, making it look like you didn't shake. Admit it, it has happened to you as well, and dry humping the hand dryer doesn't work as well as you thought it would.

That's when I splash more water all over my shirt and pants and blame it on the faucet. Damage control.
 
WD40 takes off cosmo like hot water to butter, soak it a bit and you might need to use a small scrub brush in a few spots . And its not nearly as harsh or harmfull to your health like brake cleaner , also its easier to work with because it does not evaporate fast like brake cleaner.

It doesn't smell near as bad as brake cleaner, varsol, gasoline etc, in fact I don't recall any odour... You also don't need rags and brushes, just pour the water over the part you are doing, I stripped mine down and did each component separately, either over a sink or outside or even just drop into a bucket and then dump the bucket when done. Can't say I've ever tried dry humping a hand dryer though......
 
Can-ammo ships them oiled in a plastic bag ...but you still need to wash it ....field strip it, wash it with hot soapy water ..Simple Green ...is what I used..Rinse with the hottest water you can stand and wipe it dry.
I did mine in my bath tub …but I have no one to complain about where I wash what
Grease it properly ..put it back together …take it shooting
 
Here's a pro-tip that I had to learn the hard way, don't use brake cleaner in the sink or tub. It will destroy the finish on your bath tub. It like, melted through the top layer of my bath tub and all you can see is like copper stuff underneath. I'm going to try and find some fudds who know if it's repairable or whether I need an entirely new tub.

Is it a fiberglass tub or metal? I know you can buy enamel refinishing kits for metal tubs, don't know how well it will work on fiberglass though...
 
How far do you break down the rifle to clean? Disassemble the entire trigger assembly? etc?
