oops, title should read "cleaning cz858/vz58/czh2003" not vz858.... mods?

Anyone have any special tricks when cleaning their xx.58 that they'd like to share?

I read about one guy who has cut the head off a spent cartrige, hooked it up to a hose and funnel, and then poured hot water directly through the bore. I thought this system wasn't particularly effective though as it would be easy to forget to clean the actual chamber where the cartrige sits.

Do any of you do anything special for the gas port? Also do you bother windexing the bore/piston/bolt on site till you can get home and do a proper cleaning?

Everyone has their own little trick. Some Windex, others say Windex has enough water in it to make rust worst. I usually use commercial solvents and brushes. I never use the cleaning kit it come with. I've never used the hot water trick on it, but have on a black powder rifle using a kettle. It does work as long as it is boiling hot. Don't get too worried about things. Just clean it right away and don't forget the gas port.

did you leave any ammo for me? ssshhhh 2240 .....

i clean the same day i shot. i use the hot water method.

the first thing i do is run the brush that came with the rifle thru the bore to loosen up the crud, 5x.

i then dismantle the rifle hanging the receiver upside down over the tub with the parts in a tray below it, i use a electric kettle (add a little bit of soap) and i pour thru the barrel and general all over cos the corrosive is gonna be everywhere. you might wanna use gloves cos its hot.

i then immedially run a cloth thru the barrel to get rid of the water (i got a non-chrome ).

i then clean as usual with solvent , use a wire brush for the barrel and clean every parts in the tray.

finally, i use a brush to lightly coat oil on .

try not to get carried away with over cleaning. i dont believe in spend hours and hours cleaning, takes me one hour max.

thanks for the pointers guys!

I also read that spraying the rifle down with a generous amount of WD40 is a good idea if you can't clean the rifle immediately (since it's full of solvents) but isn't good to leave in the rifle for too long.

Any insight on that one?
